Boredom and Panic

for 13 år siden 0 250 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I find that when I am not occupied I think too much! I wish my chattering mind would stop. Maybe now is the time to try out something artsy? Painting? I sometimes think that we are our own worst enemies. If I am not doing anything I get into a negative thoughts rut.

I will be on here more so maybe we can chat? I am starting a new job tomorrow if I can do it. It is only 2-1/2 days per week but in my mind  it might as well be 24/7!

Take care of you,

Kendra

I agree, standing aside as someone else and directing you can be a good way to do some of the things you don't want to do. Instead of journaling you could have a second person you try to impress with your capability to cope, you could take this person for a short walk. It is okay to do this since you yourself know it is just an exercise and you are not crazy.
I have a friend who I phone, or who phones me when I or she can not concentrate on some thing. We put our phones on speaker phone and keep a running commentary of what we are doing. I've been able to work on things I don't want to this way.

Here for you,
Davit

Hi Spartan... sometimes it helps to switch roles a little bit and pretend a friend is feeling this discombobulated and asking for some help.  What might you tell her? What might you offer in the way of commiseration, compassion, comfort....  Is there something calming or maybe fun you might suggest?  Ok, I admit it sounds weird but it helps me when I think of  myself as someone else. I'm a lot kinder and generally more compassionate.  Just some thoughts ...

Hi Spartan:  Gee, I'm just the opposite.  I welcome the quiet again, lol.  However, I agree with Tiana, maybe if you could quiet the mind somehow.  Do you like reading?  I find a good book very relaxing and quietens me down, good for high blood pressure too.  I know you can't go out of the house much by yourself, how about an open window and breathing in fresh air every day?  Maybe for 5-10 minutes.  If it's cold your way, just bundle up.  How about some yoga - you could get a DVD to follow, or some exercise program, just to get the body moving a bit.  Try a new hobby maybe.  Could be a good time to call friends and catch up with their news too.  Just a bunch of ideas....

Hi Spartan,

Many people find it hard to adjust to the 'quiet' after the hectic holidays. Be gentle with yourself. It sounds like you might want to focus on keeping your mind still, rather than just finding tasks to keep you busy. Please try the program again. Just do small bits at a time. What has worked in the past? Remembering your past successes can help ground you now.

Members, how are you coping with the calm after the storm? Any advice on how to successfully navigate this time?

Now that the Christmas Season is mostly over, I have nothing to do really and it's making me feel kind of nutty. During most of December I was busy doing baking and spending time with family like everyday, and on weekends I had my husband to keep me company. But now he's back at work I have nothing to do during the day while he's gone. I'm definitely not OK to go get a job yet, but I just need something to do so desperately. I can only clean and do laundry so many times...I know I should be working on this program, but I find that when I concentrate too hard on something it freaks me out. I feel disconnected from myself some how, it's bizarre. I don't concentrate very often because my mind is always spinning and I never focus on one thing in particular. I'm just so bored I want to cry! :( I have a hard time leaving the house by myself, I kind of hate doing anything by myself...I'm so dependent on people - especially my husband, and that in itself makes me feel worse. I just don't know what to do with myself anymore. Being calm and relaxing and concentrating just bothers me...it's foreign to me. Ugh....:(
