Jamie,

If you find something difficult to understand or want to know how other people treat a certain situation, just ask. That is what the forum is for. Every one is different. CBT is the same for every one, just how you do it may be different. It boils down to changing negative thoughts to positive. And that can take time if they are well ingrained.

Here for you,
Davit.

WELCOME Jamie:
I agree with Laura, changing our negative thoughts (which feed the panic) to positive thoughts, very important and the key to feeling good again.  Starting a new study program might seem overwhelming at first.  If you study it, session by session, do the homework, all on your own schedule, no rushing, take your time, it will be a piece to the puzzle.  When you get more pieces (more sessions learned) you will start putting together your picture and it will be enlightening for you.  I hope you give it a good try and especially practice those relaxation techniques every day, morning and evening so as to have them at the ready when you need them.  It is only through practice that you will become familiar with the physical calmness you can achieve and then be able to apply these techniques when you experience the anxious physical symptoms you may experience before an attack, or for a generalized anxiety feeling without an attack.
Keep posting, ask questions, we are on this road to wellness together and are here to support one another.  Keep the faith and believe.

Jamie, it's OK to be discouraged.  I just want you to know that I've been living with panic disorder for 15 years now.  There was a time when I thought it might kill me.  I lost everything.  But slowly I put my life back together.  Medications helped.  CBT helped more.  Since my initial CBT 10 years ago, I have gotten married, earned my bachelor's and two masters' degrees, been to Europe twice (once while pregnant!), had a child, lost a parent, and moved out of state.  And I've been FINE.  CBT really works.  You have to believe it does.  Belief shapes experience.  That is the core of CBT - change your thinking and it will change your life.  You can have it back.  I got mine back.

Glad you're here,
Laura

Jamie,
What helps you through posting,is the re-enforcement of the principles of CBT which allow us each to refresh our lapses in memory.  Good luck!

Hi Jamie,

I'm of a similar age experiencing panic and anxiety and I completely understand what you're going though. The forums here are very supportive and friendly, more so than I have seen from other forums, so keep posting.

Hi everyone, i just started this program a few days ago. last friday i had the worst attack i have ever had, usually the day after i feel awful but start to feel back to "normal" after a day or so.This time that was not the case, ever since then i have been constantly on edge.So i decided it was time i did somthing about this, i really want my life back. so i started this cbt. after the first session i started to feel much better. but right now i am at home alone and just feel really uncomfortable and a bit discouraged. I know it will take some time, but right now i just am wishing i felt normal. i am only 23 and have been trying to deal with this for years now, but i think this program will help. anyways i am rambling on, thanks for listening.
