For the ladies only please

Well my "little friend" arrived late but its here. I wanted to ask the ladies of the forum WHY do I go so down when I have my monthly, I have had it since I was 12 years old, why does it scare and bother me now? Since peri-menopause its changed and not for the better, longer more painful etc......Usually, in the past before this panic came back, once it started a day or two later I felt a little better, now I feel awful a few days before and all the way into it?! It increases my anxiety and I notice I get very irratable which I don't usually get, usually I am passive. I try to sleep rest and pamper myself but you cannot stay in bed for seven days! I just am afraid I will regress, I know its normal part of life for women and try to self-talk, but its hard.

Hi  Ladies,

This is a rough month hormone wise. I am two days late with my monthly and I just wish it would start, not that I enjoy it I hate it but just to get it OVER with if you know what I mean. My anxiety and depression are never great on normal days but before and during my monthly its much much worse, I am trying not to dread it, but it compounds the symptoms so much. How do you ladies cope with the before and during you're periods?? Do you're symptoms and anxieties and sadness increase? and how do you deal with it? My nurse thinks since I am in peri-menopause that it brought all this back from five years ago and I have to agree, I never know what to expect!

I guess I am writing for some support and encouragement from the ladies {I MISS YOU SUNNY!} I know my monthly is coming very soon and its really bringing back the symptoms of high anxiety and a depression I cannot shake. I know all women go through it and I have been going through it for many many years, but its much worse now for two reasons, the panic disorder has come back AND I am starting peri-menopause and those two things make it so much worse. I dread the cramps, bleeding and pain and its so much worse now in menopause, it scares me actually, I am trying to get more rest and drink lots of water and eat high-protein but nothing really helps, I can live with the pain but I hate the anxiety and depression that come so strong with it, I do not want to go down because I have done better lately. I have talked to women who do NOT even have panic and depression and they say they feel awful at this time of the month, very very sad and depressed like "is life worth living" their anxiety goes up and they get very moody and and yell a lot and get impatient, I mean if women without the disorder I have suffer so much, how can I hope to cope? I just keep telling myself I will get through it, does anyone other lady feel like this before their monthly and how do they cope through it till its over? And menopause does not help but I will not take hormones since the risks and side effects are so high, I mean you just have to get through it right?

It WAS my period causing the pain at least I know that now. The pain this month is very very bad, I normally have some cramping but nothing like this month, I was up all night with pain, I actually went into the bathroom and cried for half an hour because the pain was so bad and two tylenol's did nothing! It finally tapered off about eight this morning but I am really exhausted from it, I never thought I would say this but here goes, it was worse than a panic attack! Six hours of non stop pain it nearly drove me crazy, I am still hurting but not to the extent, I just do not understand why it was nine days early? peri-menopause I imagine, I read ibruphonen is better but I was afraid to take that after taking the tylenol, I stayed in bed most of the day because I was up all night, I feel very dragged out and depressed, do any of the other ladies have pain like this? if so what do you do or take? I am so very tired from the pain panic and depression all I want to do is sleep, I guess the first day or two staying off my feet will not hurt, I was just really surprised my the extent of the pain, it was much worse than usual.

It feels like cramps usually when I ovulate its one sided sharp pain this is all over cramps, hoping it will go away soon.

I know I need to go to the GYN and I am hoping in a few weeks with this program and I {hopefully} accquire coping skills and strength I can go. I remember my last appt, it was only an eye exam, I was so distraught and nervous at the end I had to run out of the building and I regugitated on the side of the building, thank God noone saw me, I would be so humilated if that happened inside a doctors office, they might even send me away and tell me to come back when I "feel better" not that I would blame them they are busy and they probably cannot deal with it, just the mere thought of going to a Dr right now fills me with dread and terror and I am so afraid it might be bad news, if I cannot deal with depression and panic how would I ever deal with something worse? I dont want to fall apart more than I have, does that make sense? I do plan to go but I know I am not ready yet and I dont want to get anyone mad if I panic and fall apart in a drs office, people can be very unkind about this disorder I have discovered and that hurts even more.

Hi Deb,

I also recommend seeing a health care professional for a better assessment and treatment for your symptoms.  During perimenopause, your cycle may become sporadic.  It may lengthen or shorten beyond the usual number of days and is hardly predictable.  The pain you are experiencing could be related to the onset of your period or it could be related to ovulation.  However, you will not be sure until you see a doctor who can ask you more questions about your condition and may perform a physical exam to understand your health concerns.

Hi Debora:  Pls. take care of yourself.  I have heard that some women when ovulating have pain, they can really feel it.  I had it a few times.  My daughter has had it too.  Not saying that's what it is, just a maybe.  It doesn't happen all the time but once in awhile can be quite painful.  If you still have it in the a.m. I hope you call your doc. or hospital for some advice.

Thinking of you,

I wanted to ask the ladies, perhaps it will relieve my worry if not the pain, I have been having very very bad cramping in my stomach for 2 days now, I kept me up most of the night and I woke up with it. It feels very much like menstual cramps, low down cramping lower back and ovaries, but the problem is I am NOT due for about another 9 or 10 days!? I never cramp this early and not this bad, usually 3 or 4 days before, but the pain is so indicative of my monthly, I am in peri-menopause so I know everything changes. Does any other woman on this forum experience bad cramp 10 days before they are due? This never happened before and of course its making my anxiety worse, I did'nt think cramping could go on so long, my sister cramps a week before so maybe its possible, or maybe I will come early I am trying not to obsess, I guess I am asking the ladies is cramping 10 days before you are due normal? I hope its nothing else, the pain is very bad and tylenol does not help, I hope it lets up its scaring me, if I knew what it was I would feel better, hopefully I am just going to start early, if you can help me ladies please.

Thank you all ladies for you're kind support and advice. I am starting to taper a little can you believe this I have been having my period since I was 12 years old and now I am scared of it?! My friend explained to me its only the lining from the unused egg and there is only so much and its not like "real" blood like from a wound, that helped me calm down a little I guess.

Right now I am very shaky, I really hate the mornings when I wake up with that "dreaded morning feeling" do you know what I mean" that always means I am bound for an attack, normally its a crap-shoot, sometimes an attack sometimes no but today I feel it coming right now as I write, I am trying to breathe and calm down but its so hard I am all alone and I am shaky and my stomach is churning, all very indicitive of a coming attack, sometimes its just as hard to fight one off as to have one, I dont know what brought it on? I woke up like this and just knew it, that crazy butterfly churning in the tummy always means its coming, I am trying not to be scared, I thought when I tapered on the montly I would be better. This is such a brutal disorder, my son said last night too me "Mom this thing has taken over you" that really hit home and hurt, I so much want this too stop the last person on earth I want to hurt is my son. I am still on week one so I know it will take time, I hope this CBT program will work, its like I am afraid I will be the one person that it wont help, and I know that is a negative terrible thought! if the attacks would stop I know I would be better and the horrible bodily symptoms, I am sorry I sound so bad I am panicking right now and its hard. I will write later when I calm down,n thank y ou.

Hi Debora,

I hope you are feeling much better today, especially after reading such great encouragement and support from other members.
As ~m said, peri-menopause can bring on unusual mood changes as a result of all the hormonal changes the body goes through.
It can also be a result of your disrupted sleep patterns, so hopefully you are getting the rest you need!
It is important to seek the help of a health professional regarding your concern of abnormal bleeding (as with any concerning symptoms you may have).  They can help you better understand what is going on with your body and rule out any potential underlying causes.  Along with writing in your diary, a great and easy exercise is to do some controlled, deep breathing.
It will help clear your mind and is very relaxing before bedtime.
