Coping with Workplace bullying

Hi Sonia,
To not act out of fear i'd have to leave the panic cycle, which I've been in a great deal of the time.

My own Bill of Rights.   Knowing who I am and what I want, what I need.  The other person has their own right/s also.  Therefore respect for one another.  If they cross the line - so to speak - then I can speak up, or I can leave.  My choice.  Always try for an adult/adult level.

Hi Hugs,

You touched on acting out of fear -- what if anything can prevent us from acting out of fear? Are there any thought processes that you use to control fear from directing your actions? Members, any thoughts?

Davit - I like your insight: "Nothing is ever for nothing"! What a nice way to keep things in perspective.

Hugs.

This is a tough one but I know what you mean about doing your best and still having to leave. But like the soldier I see only two things. It was not my fault. (that I had to leave) And that the situation is or was impossible for me. Therefore not worth consideration and time to move on.
But still it is like a chip out of a nice piece of furniture. Even if you fix it, it is still only repaired, might as well leave it alone or replace it with something else entirely.
You have replaced it with something else. Can you accept it was the right thing to do? Like the soldier who can not undo the damage his fellow man did to him he still has the pride of knowing he did the best he could under adverse conditions. No one can take that from him or you. Nothing is ever for nothing.

I wish I had your courage, but I just left work permanently, regretting leaving a lot in the midst of a difficult economy, let alone the good social contacts and sense of identity.  I've tried to help my family in a different role though, but I feel a great deal of resentment since I didn't leave "voluntarily" but out of fear, and emotional exhaustion.

Listening to some war veterans, I can't help compare myself to the shock they experience when attempting to re-enter the society they help protect.

I can't imagine the veterans' disappointment, when the society they protect with their health and lives is unwelcoming and worse, misbehaving while they serve diligently

Hello Hugs4u. Last year I dealt with bullying at work and was one of the worst experiences in my life. The bullying was the principal reason for having a nervous breakdown and was in sick leave for 2 months. After this period I could not work and took a license from my job and after 7 months of the breakdown I am still not working.
The good news is that after beginning the license I enrolled in a university course giving some time to study and think in other aspects of life.

I left work without the courage to assert myself, or take sick leave or any leave of absence, leaving me burned out. What’s left is resentment and shame, and no respect from colleagues of my entire career, which was a long one since I was with only the single company my entire life.

Hi Hugs,

We have had lots of discussions on workplace bullying here.  Do a quick search through the forums.

What is your experience with workplace bullying?

Hugs,

Yes, I have had people steal my thunder and I have had bosses that thought there way was the only way. I have been bullied I guess. It is intimidation but in the end I am still me. I have had to leave jobs because of on going bullying.
