Letting go and the perils of "baggage"

Hi Ashley,
I often rationize the feelings away, but sometimes I stew, or it comes out inappropriately, when it comes to anger.

It seems to take a long time to respond for me.  An example would be that I just came from doing some errands.  When I asked a store owner about his sale, he became visibly irate, and showed it!  I had mistakenly read his advertisement on his storefront reading "renovation sale" as "closing sale".  I had asked him when was he closing, and he must have felt upset.

He looked me up and down with great dismay and I left feeling verbally, and non-verbally assaulted, and now I feel more drained than the break I hoped would refresh me.

I wish I had been more present, but I was extra vulnerable I guess.  I didn't sleep well, since I was a little stimulated from going out two days in a row, and my mind was racing with ideas during both nights.  I also had a doctor's appointment, and have to be careful with my parent, with the poor weather, and the house being chilly, etc.

I'll be better tomorrow morning after a good sleep

Bren,
I'll try writing, as  I did years ago, but I found hard, since my hands are stiffening with age.  As for using a computer, it doesn't seem "natural", and also there's the "privacy" aspect to having the stuff accessbile on the memory flash drive(stick) by others, and my hands aren't as nimble as they were(arthritus there too).

I'll try it though, since it worked before.  They do say that movement is good for arthritus.  First handwriting, and then I'll clean up the desk so my "ergonomics" are okay

You said it very plainly...it was not this persons fault...but your responce..
Do a journal..right down your anger on paper...thats how i let mine out...you may discover the answer in your thoughts by letting them out as you write...
I know its not an easy task..have you moved on? do you plan to? are you at another job now?
You also said you were bullied at this job,,,i think it would feel great not to be bullied!
The stress of the job must have been painfull too..hope this helps you..

I was tentative about going to church today, as I often am, since i’ve had trouble letting go of anger towards work. One touchstone of that anger at work, although it is not his fault, is a neighbour who joined my company as I left. He  goes to my church.

When I see him, it triggers much anger, as it did this morning. I couldn’t listen to the sermon, and was seething with anger. But it’s not this person’s fault, but my response.

At the end of the service, I realized it wasn’t him at all, but a similar looking person! This confirmed my response is the problem.  I have to add the workplace was toxic, and I was bullied.

How do others “let go” of their different pieces of baggage, so they don’t get weighed down?  It has to be more than just “time”, since we all go through different stages of life....
