Presentations and Responding to boss

vivek.

All things panic are imagined or exaggerated. You know this from how you feel and what you think during a presentation.
Exposure will work but since you probably can't do enough presentations to small groups working your way up here is an exposure you can do. The object of this exposure and lesson is to get it into your mind that all these things are imagined.
You need a large mirror and some friends, hopefully you have both because you need both. Family will do but friends are better barring these a spouse will do. Peers or better is necessary. They have to be someone you respect or trust.
The object of this is to prove your fears are false and laughable. The basis behind all fears.
Okay here is the exercise. Stand where you can see yourself in the mirror and give a presentation. You have to be able to see your friends also. Their job is to interrupt you and do all the things you are imagining. Your job is to look in the mirror and prove them wrong. Their job is also to distract you so you can learn to stay focused. They do this by chewing gum and some nasty habits. You can choose which you can handle. Worried about how you look? Have them point it out. Look in the mirror. Not true is it.
If you aren't either crying or laughing it isn't working. At some point you should get angry if you are really serious. All of this is to get it in your memory that you are fine and these faults are false.
Truly good speakers believe in themselves, great ones don't care what they look like and all of then have one thing in common. They get angry when challenged and use the anger to find the answers rather than fall apart.
Another thing. Look at the floor when looking for answers it won't distract you.
You don't fall apart among friends, why should anyone else be any different.
If this doesn't work, there is always Propranolol. It is for stage fright but prescription only.

Anyone want to add to this?

If you begin working through program, you'll start to slowly see gains.  A doc can give you a "magic" pill, but unfortunately, unlike the imediate gratification you get from software, there's no quick fix.  Will meds, you'll have side effects too, and meds alone don't fix the problem of a acquiring a skill, changing internal negative views, etc.

I remember having to learn to cook, and what challenge it was!  I was so afraid of failing I couldn't even barely stay in a class, and walked out, losing a lot of money.  After repeated practising, and preparation and help from friends and my doc, I feel confident.  Cooking is now something I wonder about.  I looked at a plate of food I prepared one day, and wondered, "what is so hard about doing this?", without realizing the hundreds of steps and hours it took to get to this point.

I hear your need to be supported, and there are people here who will gladly support you.  Keep in touch, and let us know how the program is going, and we'll be here for you each step of the way.  By the way, some courses will even videotape you.  During Toastmasters(an international public speaking course), we actually measure each other's performance, in a supportive environment, and coach each other to higher skills.  I just wish I worked more at this program, but it was new to me, and I felt uncomfortable about posting, and even navigating the site.  I felt so stressed the detail of the program wasn't bearable.

Yes true , during presentations I feel how i look ? how am I speaking ? what others are thinking about me ? Am I looking stupid ?  and with all these thought  I just go blank  then I loose all my confidence and start using so many fillers  "like", "I mean" etc.
i feel shivering inside . mouth goes dry ???

Basically I feel panic during these times..it is like a threat to me.

what needs to be done in such cases .

Hello Vivek,

Anxiety with public speaking is very common. I think that different people are anxious about different things. Some worry about how they look while presenting, some worry about how they sound or if they are forgetting anything they wanted to say, some want to impress a particular person. These are all valid worries of course and understandable. It might be helpful for you to write or think more about what specific things you are anxious about regarding presentations.

If you are presenting in order to inform there can be pressure to know everything about your topic. If you are presenting in order to persuade there can be pressure to know how to appeal to people in a way that will work. Knowing what you are dealing with can help a lot.

Do you know what core beliefs are. Some where in your past you have made a mistake that was noticed. This built a core belief that you have done it again every time you have to answer a question. A presentation is just answering a lot of unasked questions. Taking a course will teach you to give a presentation in such a way that there are no questions left to deal with. Accepting that you got your position because you don't make a lot of mistakes will get rid of the anxiety. Accepting it won't make it go away but it will make it unimportant.

Davit.

Ps. I bet you are a lot better than you let yourself think.

Welcome Vivek,

Taking a public speaking course was what helped me, since I was introverted.  I didn't become an extrovert, but my skills changed dramatically.  Any communication courses you can take will help you.

Society is changing with kids learning more from their home computers in isolation, and we might end up with people who can't relate to each other, and a world of techies who can't communicate with the rest of us.'

You'll see a difference is a very short time, guaranteed
