Unavoidable Exposure

I haven't done that since I was a very little boy. I must say it is safer than some of the stuff we spray up our noses.

I've used a lot of things including the cortisone sprays. When nothing works I'll resort to the smallest dose of valium for the muscle relaxant effect of it. But usually Lemon Balm and Calcium will work with the same effect. Normally all I use is saline and only when I have been working somewhere very dusty. I do not have any allergies.
Sunny does and I feel sad for that. I feel sad for all of you with allergies. I have difficulty walking but nothing in the air bothers me.
Be careful, the lining of your nose will absorb what ever touches it. More medications are being used this way because it is fast. In our fast paced world fast is not always good.

Hi members,

With regards to breathing aids, an easy natural home remedy is to do steam inhalations:

Bring a large pot of water to a boil on the stove, then add 2-3 drops of Eucalyptus oil.  Let the boiling water steam off a little bit, then put your face over the steam and breathe in the eucalyptus.  It helps to place a towel over your head to trap the steam.  It feels nice on your face to.  It is not a cure for allergies, but it helps open your nasal passages and is very soothing.
Enjoy your day!

Hi Kaitie,

I need children's bite wings (x-ray thingy's to be technical :) when I go to the dentist.  I used to have braces and had to have the smaller tray too.

With the pollen, sometimes when my dogs come in from outside, I'll sneeze, because it gets on their short coats.  I have hypoallergenic baby wipes to wipe them off and that does the trick.  I'm enjoying all of these tips everyone's coming up with; thanks for sharing the info.

Hi Samantha, Shari and Hugs :)

I will remember those questions and fill out a Challenge Form I think. I did a couple of those for driving and they helped a lot.

I'm pretty sure my friend from school still works at my dentist too, it was great to have someone familiar last time. She used a smaller metal tray last time and I didn't even feel like gagging at all so I'll ask for it again. That's why I needed braces in the first place, my teeth were too crowded in my small mouth. I remember being so scared before getting my braces off, a few times while we were waiting I asked my Mum if we could go home but she kept telling me to wait a bit longer. I'm glad she did, otherwise I would probably still have them!

Hugs, I do have a bit of a celebrity smile now. Hopefully one day you can too! I've never heard of a deviated septum before, but I can guess what it is. After Mum had her eye surgeries, she would fall asleep a lot because the eye strain would make her tired, including while she was sitting on the lounge. Almost everytime she fell asleep on the lounge, she'd snort a little and wake herself up with a jolt. It always made me laugh, and now it's a bit of a standard joke in our household.

I had really bad allergies yesterday, and the past week, from dust. I just assumed it was because I'd been sorting out everything in my room and stirring up the dust. But when I went to bed last night, I noticed my flannellete sheets smelt dusty! Because it's gotten really cold here really quickly, I decided to change to my winter sheets but didn't really think about the fact they'd been sitting in the cupboard for several months. Saline nasal spray a few times yesterday did the trick though.

Hi Shari,
I do use a nasal saline solution as well, but I can't remember which part of the year.  Cleaning needs to become a priority too, with my seasonal allergies, since I keep the pollen out by closing the doors, and using a good filter, exchanging the filter.

Hi Hugs,

I used to use a steroid nasal spray as well and found a natural remedy which is saline solution. An ER doctor told me about it. The one in a can is the best. Just throwing out ideas.  Whatever works is the best for you.  I used to have chronic sinus infections and had to take antibiotics and since I've used saline solution, I haven't had to see a doctor in years.  I think the mild salt solution keeps me from getting infections.  Tree pollen is berserk here.  The vehicles are coated with yellow green pollen.  It rains enough to keep it out of the air for now.  It's good to exchange ideas on what works, so thanks for sharing what works for you.

Shari,
The strips may be a drug-free alternative to the nasal steroid.  The spray does work, but I wonder about long-term side-effects.

So far, no side effects, except a couple of unusual quirks.  I snort  a little more, started recently chewing things like hay, kick and shuffle my feet in the dirt(or hard surface and pretend it's dirt) and like horses.  I have given my share of horsie-back rides too, but those are years back.  I wouldn't consider one now, unless it's in the water.  And my sign in Asian horoscope terms, is the horse.

Better alternate nasal spray and strips.  A sleep specialist didn't support the strips though

Hi Kaitie,

I forgot to mention that you can tell the dentist of your concern and ask if they can put the least amount of molding solution in the tray.  I found this helped also, and they were very agreeable to it, and I didn't even need the throat spray at all.

Hi Hugs,

I have a deviated septum also.  I use Breathe Right nasal strips that stick to the outside of your nose and open your nasal passages, so you can sleep better.  It works like a charm for me.

Having a deviated septum like most people(who has a perfect nose except that little orange snout in your avatar?), I was asked to try a spray to open up my airwaves at night for a sleep disorder.  So I found less mouth breathing, and warming the mouthguard at night, reduced the dryness which was previouosly preventing any orthodontic treatment consideration for years.

As for the cleanings, I was asked to breathe through my nose, and will remember to try the nasal steroid. I gagged out of fear and a numbing agent, I think.  The agent dripped into my throat, and I was coughing a lot.

What I look forward to is the option of getting orthodontics, since my mouth dries up too much.  And maybe I'll choose a celeb smile, as you probably have

Hello kaitie995,

Thank you for sharing this dilemma with us. I hear that you are having anxiety about going to the dentist. Remember to use lots of positive self-talk and also you can use the following 10 questions to challenge negative thoughts:
1.   Is it "true"?
2.   How do I know it’s true?
3.   Is the anxious thought 100% true? (Something less than 100% true is not true)
4.   What's the evidence for it being true?
5.   What's the evidence against it being true?
6.   Has it ever happened before?
7.   What's different now?
8.   How bad would it really be?
9.   What's the worst thing that could happen?
10. If the worst thing happened, how bad would it really be?

Wishing you the best, let us know how it goes.
