Geodon

Ok, I just started Geodon too. The last 7 days have been interesting. I find it helps with sleeping but during the day it makes me really dizzy right after I've had an anxiety attack which last for at least 30 min. I've been working on taking each dose at different times and with food to see when the best time to take is. I've come to the conclusion at lunch and right before I go to bed. Drinking milk and crackers right before I take it seems to work the best for me as well. I'm on 60mg twice a day plus 20mg of Lexapro (at night only). After a week of taking it, I do see a difference in my moods and concentration. Mostly, I'm able to sleep with out having nightmares which used to make me very nervous in the mornings.

Jane, What does your pharmacist say? If your doctor suggests you stay on your medication, then there is a purpose for this. Make sure you tell the doctor and pharmacist how you are feeling. Have you tried an exercise program? This may increase your energy level, and lower your stress level. Talk to your doctor first, perhaps some stretches or yoga to start. You might find these exercises very relaxing as well. Hope this helps, Josie ___________________________________ The Depression Center Support Team.

I was taking Geodon in the morning and I couldn't stay awake, no matter what I did. So he switched the dose to be taken in the evening and that seemed to solve the problem of the sleepy ness. I am so tired of taking all of this **** all of the time. It can't be good for my body. I have started with some involuntary muscle twitching especially in the evening. I have never been on Haldol or thorazine so it can't be from that. He won't take me off of anything, cause he doesn't want to "rock the boat". Is this all that I have to look forward to for the rest of my life, is taking abunch of meds and still depressed?? I think I would rather pass, thank you very much.

posted 09-08-2004 06:04 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Actually, been on Ziprasidone (Geodon) for about 1 month after a 1 year use of Seoquel. First the good news, it doesn't result in the weight gains of Seroquel (I balloned on the stuff) and dosen't make you drowzy for the entire next day. It appears to work. Now the bad news: better get your heart checked before you start! I developed heart "fluttering" about 3 weeks after increasing the dosage to 80. Beleive me I feel the "out of step" heatbeat and it becoes more that a little scary. To be fair I have a history of heart problems so keep that in mind Second problem versus Seroquel: It's tougher to go to sleep at night. And the daytime drowziness is gone. On the benefits side, it is an effective drug for Bipolar and Schizophrenic types. And the daytime drowziness is gone. I feel great and it appears to work wonderfully but I'm not sure its worth the the risk. Oh BTW, I also take Lamactil for Bipolar along with Lexpro and Welbrutin. Hmm . . .4 psychotropic drugs.

Hi Susanna I am also on Efexor and has found it the best of the others they have given me. Could you please explain what the problems were with Efexor. I would not like to find out in a year that it was a waste of time, energy and money. Thanks

Susanna - I was on Effexor XR for a year and a half and it worked very well for me. It was one of the medicines that I was on for a long time before we changed to something else. I did not have any problems with it. Could you explain what happenened to you while you were on it?

Effexor XR was the best one I was on out of all the ones I tried in Canada. I am now trying something less strong and more on the natural side. Go for it.

I am currently on geodon. The only thing that I noticed is that I got hyper on it for the first couple of days. Everyone reacts differently however. I haven't been bothered by many of the side effects from the meds, BUT they do seem to quit working after awhile. How are the ect treatments going? I lost alot of memory with mine, that hasn't returned. I am currently on Effexor and Welbutrin. Can you tell me what happened to you on Effexor? I am just curious. Thank you . sosad6-Jane

This is my first post to this site, well, to any online support group, so hello. I have had depression for about 21 years. I've been on so many medications over the years, currently I'm on Zoloft, Seroquel and Lithium. I'm also undergoing ECT which is helping tremendously, but on a scale of 1-10 I only feel about a 5. I mentioned this to my doctor today and he wants to try me on Geodon. I'm wondering if anyone out there knows anything about Geodon (I already looked on the FDA website and NAMI, so I know a little, but I'd like some information from real people.) I'm a little wary about new medications because I was an effexor victim for 4 years and I don't ever want to get into another horrible situation again. Thanks, Susanna
