for 19 år siden 0 2 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I am not doing very well, I'm on patches, it is day 51, I've put 9lbs on, and I am smoking herbal cigarettes. I have started to panic that I am not going to make it. I dont think I can give up the herbal cigatettes. I know I'm not addicted to them, I am addicted to wanting to smoke something. I need some help. jj

I want to thank you all for your replies, your not being harsh, I knew the damn things were getting the better of me, thats why I posted. I could sit and cry. I have tried so hard, I thought I would just have them as a stand in, I have never smoked more than 5 in any day, but I know I cant go on like this. I will start again. I have read and read and read, I have quit before(hypnotised) for 5 years, that was 18 years ago. I am determined not to smoke cigarettes , ever. I will do this. jj My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/30/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 52 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,055 Amount Saved: 104 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 8 Mins: 51 Seconds: 45

Hi jj45...............sorry but have to agree with every word that Golferman has posted. You are smoking and feeding the body nicotine. It's not day 51, its day zero. There is no way to cheat at this. The penalty for failure is a coffin.....and you know that. My suggestion is to accept that you have failed this time and to prepare yourself to start again. Work through the programme on the left and research. If you have not done so already, read, read and read some more. Then take us by the hand for support and lets start again Brent My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/8/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 43 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 306 Amount Saved: 215 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 7 Mins: 10 Seconds: 45

Hi jj45, I don't know if herbal cigs have nicotine in them or not. But, you are getting a lower dose of nicotine through the patches. That should ease the cravings for nicotine somewhat. BUT, you are not killing the habit of lighting a cig and inhaling smoke at trigger moments in your life. This is reinforcing the smoking habit for you. Give up the herbal cigs and start chewing on toothpicks or straws. This will start to kill the junkie habit of lighting up. Let the patches do their work. You do the work of not lighting up anything. Cravings for nicotine go away whether you light up a cig or not. You just need to let them pass. Re think this quit jj. You can do it, if the desire to quit smoking is really there. jj45, Smoking and the associations it creates can be a very powerful addiction to some. Smoke is smoke is smoke. Whether it's herbal or not. If you light it and it burnes, and you draw the resulting smoke into your body, you are smoking. Period. Being on the patch is feeding you nicotine. The concept behind the patch is to provide a measured dose of nicotine while you learn how to deal with your life WITHOUT LIGHTING UP. To me it sounds like you are really struggling with this. Quitting is an easy concept.. you don't light a cigarette. In practice it takes Strength, Determination, Commitment and A Positive Attitude. When your desire to quit exceeds your desire to smoke you will quit smoking. If you never get there, then when you die you will quit smoking. Unfortunately, for people who continue to smoke, the dying part comes earlier than they anticipated... an usually with some suffering to go with it. We can't quit for you. Somehow you have to find the resolve to quit. Best wishes. Be Strong. Be Smart. Hi jj: Quitting is not an easy road, we all know that very well. It would be my suggestion that you start your quit all over because if you are smoking, you're smoking and that's a fact. Why don't you try setting a new quit date, get your act together, that is, gather some helpful items like gum, toothpicks, hard candy, cinnamon sticks, anything that might help the craves. I used the patches to help me get started and used them exactly as directed.....I felt they were helpful to me. We are all different and no one can quit for you. Just dig down deep and say Not One Puff Ever (N.O.P.E.). I wish you strong determination and a positive attitude. Good luck! Hi jj, the way I look at it, there are two parts to smoking. The nicotine addiction and the psycholgical/physical habit. nrt's (patches, gum, lozenges, etc) help us wean off the nicotine. they supply us some nicotine as we break the habit side (the lighting up and the hand to mouth motion) and as we learn to deal with the psycholgical aspect. If you are using patches, you are getting the nicotine. If you are smoking herbal cigarettes (which are not necessarily safer), you aren't breaking the physical habit. To continue this quit, maybe (with your doctors approval) you could finish the patch program, then give up the herbal cigs. (Although I suspect the doc will recommend you give up the smokes first.) Please take some time to re-evaulate your reasons for quitting and to plan your quit...how to get through craving without lighting up. Review the info in your glovebox or work the program if you haven't yet. And please...come back and let us know how it's going! We all learn from each others experiences and we'd love to help you on your journey. if you are smoking herbal cigarettes then you have NOT quit smoking. While nicotine is the drug of addiction, the killing power of a smoke lies in just that.....the smoke. you are getting your nicotine from the patch and keeping up the 'habit' with the herbal smokes. You are gaining nothing as far as I am concerned. I am not trying to be harsh.....but you gotta take the blinders off and look at what you are doing. perhaps as well as the using the patches you might consider wellbutrin? However you proceed from here, do NOT go and get cigarettes....destroy those herbal things and start your patch program from the beginning (withOUT smoking) Get yourself some straws, cinnamon sticks, hard candies, things to occupy your hands and to suck and chew on. Set aside the weight issue for right now. You can implement healthy snacks,,,,but deal with the quit first. and believe me when I say you CAN do this!!! my hubby and I smoked heavily for over 40 years and we are free from this monster! hang tough and kick some butt Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1478 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 59,133 Amount Saved: $8129 Life Gained: Days: 192 Hrs: 19 Mins: 53 Seconds: 58
