You can do this, Sparky! I'm right there along side you. I'll be thrilled when "hell week" is over. I've got a few more days to go. I'll spend most of my time on this site if I have to, just to keep from smoking. Hang in there, you are so worth it!!! Hey Sparky. I beleive I read this here somewhere awhile ago, but truly beleive it. What is a trigger?? A trigger to me was my whole day. 1st thing in the morning smoke, after breakfast smoke, break smoke, lunch smoke, kid spilled milk smoke, afternoon break smoke, really stressful meeting smoke, dinner smoke, dog pooped on the floor smoke, and on , and on , and on. So basically in the beginning all day will be hard to get through. What you need to do is get through all these triggers a few times without smokes in order for them to not be triggers anymore. It may takes some time but you will get there if you remember NOPE. It gets easier but you still need to stay tough and fight everyday. I am so glad I found you in here today...I was getting nervous! we have 6 days! Hell week is over tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could not get to my computer last night, internet is through the cable company and it was down. :( But it is working now. Got on briefly in the morning from work. I had a terribly stressful afternoon and am happy to say I survived without smoking. I did, however, take my sunflower seeds with me and damn near choked to death on one! I'm awfully proud of you for resisting and having hubby throw the dog-ends in the bag containing the dog-ends! That was very thoughtful of him! :) I like what Free said about self-talk. This quit I am regarding myself as a non-smoker and trying not to dwell too much on what I think I may be missing by not smoking. I just, simply, don't smoke. See you in the morning with a big 7 on our meters!!!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 335 Amount Saved: $48 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 16 Mins: 37 Seconds: 2

Sparky-Sorry to say, but my computer at home is ancient and I am unable to IM. Have a modern computer at work, but those governmental information-system gestapo geeks won't let anyone have any fun! I hope to have a new computer by the time I quit for 6 months...then I can send all those beautiful animations I admire so much! LOL @ the butts in the dog's waste bag! You can do this Sparky. Pay close attention to your inner dialog. You can change it to benefit you. It just takes practice in catching it. Whenever you realize that your inner dialog is speaking to you in ways that are not beneficial ... change it into dialog that does benefit you. Instead of thinking that you miss smoking, for example, tell yourself that you love your new non-smoking life. Even if you don't believe it at the moment, keep saying it ... I guarantee you'll make it reality. I don't think your post sounds wacky at all Sparky. In fact I think it is one of the best posts you have written. I am super happy you are taking a real deep look at your slips. It is in recognizing the cold hard truth of our obstacles that we can learn how to overcome them. If there is anything I can do to help, let me know. Today is much better. Day 6 and counting. I got up this morning and went for my walk. I had a long talk last night with a friend. She asked me why I could quit drinking and why it was so hard for me to quit the cigs. I told her that when I drank I was out of control, black out drinker and put people in danger, so on so on. Where as my smoking it didn't cause me memory lost, I was in control of my thoughts and actions. Now that the kids are gone and I did most of my smoking outside, thought what the hey. The more I write the more stupid this sounds. What I do regreat is all the years I smoked around the kids and didn't think I was harming them. Thank God they do not smoke and hate it. The point is I am now taking a long and hard look at my behavior where it concerns my slips (cigs) and why I do it. Sorry this sounds wacky.
