Blue Ribbons of Championship go to All Of The Quitters who have reached those Plateaus I felt compelled to come in here and give some insight. I was a NON-SMOKER for TEN YEARS Did I scare anybody? Hope so! For all of you here at the SSC...to know: I didn't start smoking again because of my addiction leading me back...or tempting me. I was perfectly happy with my quit, no craves. the dreams had stopped several years earlier and I felt wonderful, probably better than I had in my entire life! I was enjoying life, walking 5 miles three times a week and extremely active in every aspect of my life. It was a request by someone else who wanted me to lose weight! and I was sort of blackmailed into it. I was perfectly content in losing the weight by my own methods of sound nutrition and regular exercise (the weight was coming off perhaps slowly, but never the less it was coming off) There is no Fluff to this story: Pat yourself on the back everyday you stay nicotine free because there is a day coming when you will physically feel like a Non-Smoker. You won't have a crave. And once you have over come this addiction, if you should be tempted to... light one up.... You won''t go back to being an addict.............after one cigarett "Unless you choose to"! End of Story. auntdeb Ps. Be warned though, You do have to achieve this mental image and remain nicotine free for a long time. Thanks Mr. Ed. Well said. Maybe on this plateau...the reward can be a hot rod (corvette or something similar) to have some fun in...and open her up and see what she can do. It would be the same for us...what can we do with that kind of freedom and all that space. It's then we need to remember to set ourselves free to see what we can do and are capable of being smoke free!!! The future definately looks brighter!! Wow... Mr. Ed and Duffis.. Your insight, your wisdom.. totally awesome words. Leaves me speechless really. I gain so much knowledge, encouragement and resolve from you, and other's, with so many days quit. Thank you for taking the time it does take to express your thoughts in the way that you do. Clearly your thoughts are coming from deep down inside.. sharing all that you think with the rest of us. Thank you Mr. Ed - Your post was especially timely for me. Indeed, the initial excitement has worn off and sometimes it's hard to remember why I hated smoking so much. Now, I notice those extra pounds and sometimes I get a little discouraged....You helped me to keep my eye on my ultimate goal and to realize that I am not alone. Mr. Ed, Very insightful post. As we walk along the plateau it is important to begin engaging in periodic quit maintenance. This involves our reward system. Just as you said, the benefits of our quit are still emerging but to a lesser degree. It is therefore important to continue to periodically reward ourselves and give us a more tangible benefit. Thanks for sharing. Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team
