I'm no expert on patch usage, since I quit cold turkey, but from my research and from being on this site, it seems as though it's not QUITE as bad. There are over 4,000 chemicals in cigarettes... probably more than just nicotine is addictive. So, you have already quit the other chemicals and now just have the nicotine withdrawal to deal with. Yes, nicotine is highly addictive and coming off of it is not easy, but it shouldn't be as hard as in the beginning. You will probably have a few rough days, but as others have said, you have already broken the "habit" part of the addiction and the hand to mouth action. Now, you're just dealing with the physical aspect. And as almost everybody agrees, this addiction is about 90% mental and 10% physical... you have dealt with most of the mental stuff already and now just have the physical - 10%!
Congrats on your first day nicotine free and here's wishing you the best in all of you nicotine free days to come!
