Bob,
To quote your quoted quote:
Optimistic people attract help and resources into their life. Pessimists repel those who may be in a position to help them.
To take this to the realm of smokers, a smoker is a pessimist and the quitter is the optimist. The hard core smoker is convinced that his choice to smoke is his and his alone and he isnt harming anyone, let alone himself. Those who know better attempt to show the smoker the futility of his logic, only to be repelled by the smokers blind devotion to his addiction.
The individual who quit smoking has expanded his world and his knowledge. He knows the falsehoods of smoking and has made the decision to cast aside his old weakness to his addiction and has embraced the truth. He has regained his life by allowing others, more wiser than he, to lead him out of the dark and into the light.
Good stuff Bob!!
