Nance I loved your post you hit it right on. Yes I lost it in the 60's and did regain my sanity in the 70's. Listening to Peter,Paul and Mary as I post. I too am glad I got to live it and see it evolve. No one thing is to blame it is just life and how we come to grips with it. Pen, Each generation laid the foundation for future generations, and although each has tried to pass on the lessons learned, perhaps the right people didn't get the message. Each generation has fought their own war, elected their own leaders, and battled their own demons. I believe it was in the late 60's when the US Surgeon General determined that smoking was harmful. Forty years later...yes, fewer smokers, but now we legislate to protect people from themselves and their choices! Did anyone quit smoking in the 60's when the warnings began? or the 70's? (Does anyone have any stats?) Our naivete died in the sixties and our idealism was reborn in the 70's. Have we made inroads into the bad or illegal habits of many? At what cost? The 60's were exciting, turbulent, and conflicting. I am glad I witnessed all of it! The stories live on in the music, and the music never dies. Do I detect some irony here? Could not the wonderful world of the 60's also be viewed as the foundations of the world we live in today, a world much maligned and criticized by the same us in another current thread? Hmmmm! Penitent struggles! He confused! :confuse: Perhaps it's just some of our older clientele being a little wistful ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/18/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1193 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 23,860 Amount Saved: 5,965.00 Life Gained: Days: 191 Hrs: 15 Mins: 28 Seconds: 14

I'd love to Aloha but, sadly, I've spent all my travel money for this season. Tell me about it if you go. Those were the days my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we chose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way And we were indestructable with a lifetime to right our wrongs, so we smoked (tobacco) and never gave it a thought. I, too, miss parts of the 60's and 70's. They were fun times and often carefree. OK, back to reality. *grumble* ;p ElderOne My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 822 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 16,440 Amount Saved: $3,896.28 Life Gained: Days: 150 Hrs: 0 Mins: 4 Seconds: 18

I was too young for the 60's and too old for the 70's. But I'm feeling much better now! You are so right we sure were a lot younger in those days I can't remember who said it but remember "youth..it's wasted on the young" I have many fond memories of those days before I recovered and returned to the establishment. Thank you for reminding me. Ahhh, the 60's! That was the decade! Peace, love, be-ins. Turn on, tune in, drop out...or something like that. Black light and tie-dye! Gosh I'd love to go back... I was so much younger then!
