I'm thinking back to when I was at 13 days.............not sure I could string a sentence.........
BUT.........I was sure glad others here could...........

Reading kept me sane.....and Quit.  Sometimes I had to read stuff 2-3 times........the wandering would be that bad.
Now it's better.........my new pathways are lots clearer...........you make a lot of sense deb.

Keep the QUIT
hugggggggggggggggg

Hey again you.

You have the right information.  We are born (as far as I know) with every brain cell we will ever possess.  We do not grow more after we are young persons, and there is a proven mass brain cell death when we are teenagers which is another super interesting subject.  But, we do grow new neural paths if they are needed which is not the same as making new brain cells.

The brain cells are like roots of a tree.  There can be a partial death, but the remaining roots will make a new path to compensate.  That's why stroke victims can learn to speak again.  There are not new cells that are grown, but new pathways.

I'm hugging these new pathways... we all are.  We can't replace the brain cells, but we really can make optimal use of the ones we have left.

How's that for fun!  I'm amazed that I can string a sentence! :)

It's amazing how much you end up learning by quitting smoking.  I feel like I have a PHD in Psychology with all I've learned over my quit.  Between getting the flashes of ideas from hiking or diverting my energy from smoking to reading new books It really is amazing how much there is to learn out there.  As far as your talk on the brain I think there is still so much more to learn out there, and I believe that we still haven't even begun to scratch the surface.  People just years ago said there was no way to grow neurons and you are born with all you will ever have and it only goes downhill from there. Now they've shown that the idea is completely false, and they've shown many instances where you do grow neural pathways.  I was just reading how people who meditate actually synchronize  their left and right hemispheres so that there brain works much more efficiently because of new neural pathways that are formed.  It's all fun to play with and makes life much more interesting than hiding behind the veil of smoke.  Here's to your quick changing of habits.

Hi Deb........

Creating those new pathways was almost a deal breaker several times for me.  I felt my mind was so full of chatter sometimes that it nearly drove me mad.  Those are the times to put your trust in the people here who have some time under the belt. The belief that this will pass eventually, that the days will get better and you will find some joy again.

I am so glad you are back and posting.  I admire your honesty and I think your words help not only you but many others here.  Keep bulldozing those new roads Deb........Before you know it they will be a smooth drive.

Fantastic observation, Deb.  While we are ridding out body of toxins in a short timeframe (albeit seems like years).  The habits and routines are deeply rooted into our brains and our beings.  Gonna take some serious time and focus to retrain ourselves.

Congratulations on the hookie thing.  I can only imagine the beauty of the setting, but can certainly relate to the great satisfaction of lungs filled with fresh air.

Heck week nearly complete!  Great job on your quit!!!!!!
