Needing a little support

I am glad that you got through that one...This is an awful addiction that taps us on the shoulder every now and again, just to let us know it's still in the neighborhood.  But I do think that as we teach ourselves about its nature, we become accustomed to its presence.  Awareness tends to shine a light on the things that we most greatly fear.  And if that light is bright enough, even the greatest of our fears becomes indistinguishable from the glow our awareness...

Wow, I want to thank you all so so so very much for all the support! I am extremely happy to let you all know that I did not slip and I am feeling better now. Each and every one of you touched me with yours word of support and I really take what each of you offered seriously. I felt so silly for going through this difficult time I didn't even share this with my closest friends because I felt so ashamed... so I just want to say thank you for letting me have an outlet...

Gosh, I am just so humbled by all of your kind words. thank you for being you! :)

I do hope that you are still with us.  Perhaps you have had a bit of a tumble this time.  I hope not, but if so, please remember that you can come back and talk about it.  Every one here, to a person, knows how difficult cessation can be...

Hi Everyone,

So nice to see some familiar faces on  the board and hello to the new ones too!

Serenity--I think at points most quitters go through  'craves' (I still have them after 3 years quit) and you learn that they will pass. You let it go by and you do get stronger each time you beat it. Stay strong--cherish and protect your quit with anything that works for you. Deep breathing, shopping, water, exercise all helped me through the difficult hours + days. Just know you will get through this + the other side is a great place to be.

Life out of the chains of addiction is sweet. Stay strong, keep coming to the SSC + you will DO this:)

Cheers everyone!

Kelly We're here to support each other and at times collectively we are stronger than at other times. By saying that we struggle it gives common ground in our fight against this incidious affliction and is easier and we're stronger in numbers. I can't do it all but collectively we can. I can't , we can. It's not our fault that we became addicted but now that we know the truth it is our freedom to change and do something about it. Yay for you ! Thank you for your honesty. breather

Hello everyone,

Nonic, ML, Breather, so nice to see you.  I too would like to say this happens to me, and I have had a hard time dealing with it.  I take ALOT of medications to keep the anxiety and other nasty feelings under control, but I will do what I have to so I can remain smoke free.  We all can beat this, it just might take some more time.  If it was easy forever, we all wouldn't still come around here and support eachother.  I hope everyone is doing well otherwise, and nice to see all of you around.

Take Care everyone....

Kelly...

Serenity -  I came back to this board today for reassurance as I have been having cravings beyond belief.  They have come and gone during the period since I stopped smoking but, this time, are more than I can handle alone.  So, what did I find but your post.  Oh, I may be quit longer than you but I found that when the cravings hit, I just turn my attention to something else.  Sometimes it's not the people you're with, not the situation, but something deep inside that turns into a crave.  I guess it's natural to crave after being a long time smoker, as I was.  But I saw your post and it validated my decision to keep quit and to urge you to do the same.  It wasn't easy getting to this point, especially in the first months, but darn well worth the effort, don't you think?

Keep on keeping on.  You will like yourself for doing so.

Think about how good it feels to wake up the morning after being tempted and realize, "I didn't give in!". Give yourself that feeling all over again. It's good.

Sounds as if you are talking about summer...Perhaps there are things going on in your life that are calling you back to old things and ways of being.  I would not be surprised...I find that as the seasons change, I change with them and I think that is how it should be.

Sometimes change weakens the resolve that we forged in former times.  But I know that you have learned many things about yourself along the old cessation path.  Some of these have been spied indistinctly through a mist of tears and some have come to you as you bravely resisted the old ways in favor of birthing a new you.  I hope that you will return to the understanding of this addiction that has been gained through your hard work. You have labored at this task to long to go back now.

This is a passing thing, let it pass you by...You will be glad of it when next the seasons shift...
