It's SUPER hard to separate his quit from your quit right now. You feel like you're missing something? You're not. HE IS!!!!! You chose life, stand proud and know that you have made that GREAT CHOICE. You want to live longer and be healthy. It's ALL good. I will repeat that your quit is yours, and his was his. You recognize his choice (cuz he's an addict) and that part you DO understand. He has to decide to choose life and quit on his own. I hope he does, but don't you feel bad for one second, you're a WINNER Kim. We are very proud of you!!!! I have a feeling you're struggling more with acceptance that he is not going to come back to the Quit Wagon. Well, maybe and maybe not, it's not up to you. Cheermom, Take a deep breath! Relax for a minute. Regain your composure. Okay now. Keep breathing slowly. I know exactly how you feel. I went through that as well. It took a while, but I got over it. I kept on thinking that it was not fair. Why can those people smoke, but I cant? I wanted to stomp my feet and go run away. It is normal to feel this way. Please do not focus on this though. You are choosing not to smoke. You know that is the better choice. I personally, do not want to EVER go through hell week again. Remembering the shaking, crying, painful physical withdrawls keeps me on my toes. I never want to go back. I looked at my hubby last night as he hacked up his lung. He had to sit up on the bed just to get in a breath. I thought ~ how sad. It came to me that in a few days I will be at 8 months. And if he stuck with his quit, he would be there too. But this means that he has been back to smoking for over 7 months now. Sad. I never thought of that before. Remember your quit. You did this for you. Think of how sad it is that your spouse is burdened with his addiction. He lives for his addiction. His addiction OWNS him. You never want to go back. Change you thoughts. Give yourself a big reward. Do something wonderful for yourself. Go get a manicure, and make sure to smell your hands every hour. The beautiful scent of the lotion will remain~ instead of a stinky ashtray smell. Take care of yourself. Don't sell yourself short. You are in control of your quit. Be kind and gentle to your soul. Cheermom - You own your quit. What your husband does cannot influence it unless you allow it to do so. You have the right idea - breath. Relax. Try to remember why you quit and the benefits you have enjoyed from quitting. That HAS NOT changed because your hubby folded. Also - search for your own prior posts. Read them and follow yourself along on your journey again. You'll actually inspire yourself. I've used that trick several times on myself. Hang in there cheermom. Even at 145 days the junky can come on strong.....he is doing that here and he is turning the facts in your head....you aren't being controlled....you are IN control...and not smoking is a "choice" not a sentence of any sort. The smoker smokes cause he HAS to....he HAS to feed the addiction...you have chosen to say no and mean it. the junky pops up at crazy times and does a tap dance in our heads. He sees your hubby smoking...he has been suspicious of this for some time....he has just been laying in wait for when you nail it down as a fact. You are feeling a bit angry at him betraying you in the quit, but you need to remember that a quit is a "totally" personal experience. No one can really help or hinder your quit...it's the personal "choice and determination" that allows you to either make it or fail. You are making it!! Stop dwelling on your hubby smoking, let go of the anger, bring on positive thoughts about staying clean. It really doesn't matter who smokes around you or how close they are....not smoking is what YOU are choosing to do. Focus on yourself. Drag out the reasons you wanted to quit...write down the positives of being off nicotine....pay special attention to what money you have saved....perhaps it's time for a special reward?? Rewards should be a central part of quitting. You should have short term ones and longer term ones. Small ones, and larger ones. It's ok to be selfish about your rewards! YOU have earned them. so go on....be GOOD to yourself. you deserve it! and turn that saying around....."I have QUIT and YOU haven't!!" Whoohoooo for YOU!!! go on now and get on with the reward! cheermom, At this time you have to take care of yourself. If your hubby is smoking again then it is up to him to want to quit. There is nothing wrong in what you are thinking at this time. As long as you want to remain smoke-free then we feel that you have come to a great stage in your quit. Be sure to stay close to the site as your hubby continues to smoke.
