Champix rookie with questions

Hi Shoggy. I quit with Chantix and I so highly recommend it. Just remember, it will help with the physical urges, but you still have to conquer the mental ones - and those are the ones that fuel the addiction. I had some great dreams on the chantix, LOL - miss them sometimes! I did also get a bit queasy after taking them sometimes and would need to just take a few minutes to relax. I found that if I took with water after eating something it helped. ALSO, I noticed that if I put anything in my mouth for an hour or so after taking them (gum, sucking candy, etc...) I got queasier. Hope this helps. Keep up the good work. Oh yeah, when you are ready to stop the chantix - taper off for a week or so - it will help you avoid excess anxiety. Hi Sue, I used Chantix as well. I took in for a week before I quit and it did make my stomach quesy. I took it with food too. That went away soon and the dreams are very vivid. I quit taking Chantix 5 weeks after I started and what I did was cut it down to 1/2 pill in the morning and 1/2 at night for a week and then just quit. I have not experience any major cravings since I quit. I do think about it still every day, but I think that's to be expected for a long while. I quit once when I was younger for 2 years and I remember thinking about it but didn't have to act on it. A thought won't kill you, the cigarrette will! Hi Shoggy - I also used Chantix - it was super helpful, amazing really. Anyway, I used it for 2-3 months. By the time I stopped the Chantix it was okay -- it didn't cause any withdrawal or residual cravings to come back. I still had desires to smoke - but they were just thoughts rather than those exhausting intense cravings. Keep us updated on how you're doing! Hi Sue....CONGRATULATIONS on your quit! You are on your way girl! i didn't take Chantix instead, I was on Zyban and had to get off of it after 5 days because it was making me feel real dizzy and spaced out. I quit smoking 17 March and am still feeling a bit dizzy. I'm not sure if its the effects of the Zyban still or my body getting all that oxygen again. I am going to the DR on the 24th to have it checked out and make sure that i am ok. Anyway, we are here for you and believe me, it helps. You GO GIRL! Hi Sue! Way to go on your quit!!! Are you planning on going through the whole 12 weeks or perhaps longer? I got off the Chantix after a little over 3 weeks, mainly because I didn't like the acid belly it was giving me! But, yes, being off the Chantix, I DO get cravings!!! I'll probably always have a craving or urge pop up, like many of the "old timers" have reported!! The thing is, I am committed to being a non-smoker!!! I didn't spend that $113.50 for the Chantix for nothing!!! ;p It's still one day at a time for me, but the urges are not like they were when I quit Cold Turkey last year!!! I guess it may be habitual as you suggested, but it probably is more of a mental thing for me now! We just have to not think about smoking and we'll get through this thing!!! Once again, great job and report back often to let us know how you are doing!!! So Champix (as it's called in Canada) has been working so well for me. I can't believe how a tiny pill can take away such a powerful addiction. I am able to see how the habit of smoking is what needs a lot of work breaking and it's soooo much easier without the nicotine craving! Last night I went out to dinner. I had a beer and a big meal. After dinner while waiting for the bill I wanted to have a smoke, but I realized that it wasn't the nicotine talking, it was the pure habit of going for a smoke after a meal and a beer. I surprised myself when it wasn't necessary and I didn't actually 'need' one. I hope this continues once I'm off the pill. Do you feel the same when you are off the pill or do you get stronger cravings (nicotine cravings as opposed to habitual)?

hey Sue! A lot of us took Chantix here, for more info type Chantix after clicking the search link and select your time periods to see more info. Def take it with food, and up your fiber. I was super nervous about coming off it, but it was no big deal, at that point it is a mental habit battle I think, so just keep changing up your routine and add some exercise. Me, I popped sour jelly bellies! Hi Shoggy and welcome to the gang!!! I took Chantix, too and it did it's job of weaning me off cigarettes! The first 2 weeks though, I spent almost all of my spare time here reading and learning and cheering people on!!! (Has that changed??) Anyways, I never felt nausous, but it did give me acid indigestion pretty darned good, especially at night. I had a roll of rolaids handy and I always took an acid reducer before I went to sleep. I quit taking the Chantix this past weekend and my acid indigestion problem has cleared up!!! As for no longer being addicted to nicotine..... it doesn't work that way for me and probably most people here will tell you the same thing! Sorry!!!! Nicotine is a darned powerful drug and I heard that it is even more addictive than heroine!!! I'm still addicted and I'll probably always be addicted to it!!! Do I think I will feel the need for it again??? Oh heck yeah!!! Will I ever smoke another one??? Oh HELL NO!!! I'm a non-smoker!!! I have to preach this to myself quite often during the day and I know that it will definitely get better, it has already!!! The Chantix really helped and I think that the SSC has helped even more! Do NOT get discouraged if the fight gets tough, just tough it out and we'll be here for you along the way!!! Keeping a Positive Mental Attitude is the whole trick to this kick the demon game!!! Good luck and Congratulations on your quit!!!! Hi Yes I do feel better, The little wheeze I had when I was going to sleep at night ....is GONE. My dogs no longer sneeze. I think clearer and I have more energy.. just keep Freedom in mind.. I am free.. I am no longer having to stop to feed the junkie nicotine. My clothes and car smell better. My nose is not all plugged up, and I don't have that gunky film in my mouth in the morning. Glad your work is understanding. Hang in there it gets better...:) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/10/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 45 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 765 Amount Saved: $153.00 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 13 Mins: 5 Seconds: 21
