I am recently experiencing a similar thing after 4-5 years taking a combination of Celexa and WEllbutrin. They seemed to treat my symptoms very well for a long time, but for the past few months i've been getting more and more of the old symptoms. My psych decided to double the dose of Welbutrin. this had a side effect of giving me extreme anxiety, so i went back to the original dosage. now I am afraid to change meds although maybe something else would help -- but there would be a very rough transition period. I am thinking of starting more intensive therapy, and trying other non-drug approaches. Are you getting therapy?

Hi Vicky, If you are truly ready to find another method to help you with your depression them do it! Stay on your meds and go and talk to your Doctor about safe and reliable options other than medication therapy. Please let us know how everything works out Vicky. Thanks for your post :). Melanie

Hi. I am currently taking zoloft. I have been taking it on and off for the past 4 years. I am 24 years old and the longest I have stayed on it is 1 year. I have had recurring depression for the past 4 years, but i don't want to stay on medication for the rest of my life. i might be in denial, but aren't there alternate alternative such as cognitive behaviour therapy, good diet and excercise? Please respond, i need some advice from someone who has experience severe major depression.

I took it for over ten years at 200 mg a day. About three years ago when I was in an especially stressful situation and was becoming very depressed, I asked if another med might be more helpful. My psychiatrist said no. Seven months ago i could feel myself slipping into a major episode, even though I was still taking the Zoloft. I now have another doctor who promptly took me off the Zoloft and onto Wellbutrin. The worst symptoms subsided after about five weeks of Wellbutrin. So, yes, I think the meds do lose their effectiveness over time. Ask to change to something else. Don't be passive like I was and end up in a severe major dep

Hi. I have been dual diagnosed with Panic Disorder and PTSD. I have been taking 125-200 mlg of Zoloft for approximately 4 years. I thought it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Panic attacks went away, depression and general anxiety subsided. I launched my own business that would never have happened without this wonder drug. I am taking 200 mlg of Zoloft now and suddenly I am having big breakthrough symptoms. Lately I feel as though I am not taking any medication. Anyone else heard or know if 4 years is all one can expect from Zoloft? I know I will need drugs for life since my symptoms are so severe so I am wondering what other people are using and how they have been helped. Thank you. Kelly
