Anti-depression meds and weight gain

You told me you dropped the weight, but all you said is that you worked hard and exercised. Well, I worked hard and exercised and dieted and everything else, and I may have lost a few pounds here and there, but now have gained them back. I have not weighed myself for some time. I gave up exercising , because it didn't help me loose weight at all. I also was about 150 tops, and went down to around 125-and up again to where my pants I used to wear at 150 are too tight. I am fed up to the point of depression and exasperation. I have also been reading about something called GHF Growth Hormone Factor and Cortisol and would like to know if anyone has tried an anti Cortisol remedy which is supposed to help releave anxiety, loose belly fat, and increase energy? I understand that GHF is connected to the pituitary gland which affects the thyroid; and people have felt more calm and happy and have lost weight also. Does anybody know about this or any side effects?

Hello. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about 2 years ago. Prior to the diagnosis I weighed about 120 pounds. At the time of my diagnosis I weighed about 136 pounds and when I started on meds for depression in October, I weighed 150 pounds. I was devastated because I was at the highest weight I had ever been in my life. I am still taking the meds for depression (Prozac) and through hard work and exercise, I have gotten my weight back down to where I feel good about myself. I too thought about stopping my meds thinking that it would be easier to lose weight if I wasn't taking them but decided I didn't want to go back to where I was before I started meds. As Angela said, weightloss is a constant battle for some and the meds we take can make it that much harder. Then throw in the thyroid problems and it seems like it will be impossible to ever lose weight but keep the faith. It can be done, it just takes a lot of work. I didn't think I would ever be able to lose weight but did and you can too! Best of luck to you!

Members, Although medications do have side effects, it is important to continue with medications, especially those involved with thryroid. Weight loss is a continous battle with all types people on medications that can affect weight, and can be very frustrating. It is important that we do not abruptly discontinue any medication without the input of our health care professionals. Angela, __________________________________ The Depression Center Support Team

I just met a friend who I hadn't seen in about one year and she was on Effexor XR for a while, so was I. We were both obese. I was on various meds. for over 12 years now, and she stopped taking the Effexor and continued exercising etc. and she dropped a lot of weight. In fact, when I first saw her, I did not recognise her. She said it was the pills, and told me not to blame myself. I have been wondering if I should stop my meds., but I have done it in the past only to start up again after about 3-4 months later when the meds had worn off. I would start to bawl and fight and scream and finally got myself back onto some other meds. I would sure like to be of a normal weight some day, but don't see how it is possible. Does anyone else have such a story, and what helped them to stop? This person stressed physical exercise, and that if she did not get enough she would become unwell again. Also, she just tries to deal with her emotions as they come or tries to take it easy on herself at those times. Is anyone out there also on Thyroid medication, and does anyone have Thyroiditis and Hypothyroidism? And have you been able to loose weight either by stopping meds or some other way?
