Illogical Medications?

That you are taking a Thyroid hormone supplement is interesting. Did they test your thyroid levels before deciding to give you this (I assume so)? My dog was on thyroid supplements for awhile and I tried taking some as an experiment (=P). I have been on Venlafaxine and the mood stabilizer Divalproex. I have heard many people complain of a decrease in cognitive ability when on mood-stabilizers. I had no such problem with Divalproex. Of course divalproex isn't Lithium so I'll shut up. That sure is a whack of medicine there. 5 at once. It is probably not uncommon though. Are you able to manage taking all those meds at the right time? Hopefully you have some friends or family supporting and watching over/after you. I had migrane problems when I was taking seroquel (concurrently with divalproex and effexor). The psychatrist basically dismissed my concerns saying that wasn't a listed sideeffect. What I gather from that experience is that there can be interactions between meds that the doctors don't know about or that are unique to you. Hopefully you will be visiting a family doctor or psychatrist often and they didnt just boot you out and forget about you. I have heard that meds like Effexor may cause a bipolar patient to enter a manic phase. Are you bipolar beccause as far as I know that is the standard reason for prescribing Lithium. l8r psysick

Hi Sad, The meds you listed I am familar with 2 of them the venlafaxine and the mirtazapine. The venlafaxine is what I think a very good and safe depression meds. Lithium, I am just so cautious when that name is mentioned. The best advice to give you is to make sure you follow up with a good pyschiatrist. Make sure you are comfortable with the person. And you can alway check with creditability of the professional through the internet. Also as with any drugs there is always the risk of drug interaction. And maybe the dosing needs to be adjusted. Take care and Tah Tah Peanut

Hi SadnotBad You said the answer yourself. "I have recently been discharged from hospital following a very serious episode of depression." You are just as ill as any other person coming out of hospital and in the first few weeks or even months, they have to be on strong medication. Don't think to much about it. I am sure if you trust your doctor, you will know that he knows what is best for you. Good luck

Sad, You have come to the right place! Please feel free to roam the site at your own pace. If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find our Depression Test. This test is not a diagnostic tool and is not a replacement or substitute for a physician's advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor. This may better help assess the situation. If you have any question or concerns with our site or please contact Support Department at support@depressioncenter.net. We are open to any questions or concerns you may have. Looking forward to hearing from you soon! Josie __________________________________ The Depression Center Support Team

Hi there - I've just joined up so am a bit nervous! I have recently been discharged from hospital following a very serious episode of depression. I've been discharged on heaps of medications and I'm a bit concerned that it's a bit crazy. Was just wondering if anyone could shed any light on things. I'm now taking venlafaxine and mirtazapine (which I've been taking for about a year now) PLUS lithium, tryptophan and a thyroid hormone. Probably should say I'm in the UK! Any help would be great.
