Headaches

for 19 år siden 0 21 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi wdarling: I had headaches for years before they were diagnosed as migraines and I got medications that actually worked, by that I mean they controlled the pain. I had headaches before I had depression, and once I got my depression and then got treatment my number of headaches actually decreased--also got mostly thru menopause which probably helped too. Anyway, the moderators are right, there have been a lot of advances made in the treatment of headaches over the past few years, so if you haven't seen a doctor lately, you may be surprised at how much they can do to help. The only thing is, you may have to go to more that one doctor or complain more than once, the first doctor I was wasn't much help--it was the second doctor I saw that was helpful.

Hi wdarling, Please do be sure to contact your doctor soon about these headaches. Casey __________________________________ The Depression Center Support Team

Hi, My father and I both suffer from depression and both get headaches. For me (when I finally asked him about his, his descrptions were very similar), they are less painful and more like a pressure that starts at the back of my head and works its way up to the front, like a big band putting pressure on my head. At the same time, my entire brain feels sort of empty, like it has been scooped out. It's very unpleasant and scared me for a long time. After a couple weeks on generic celexa it went away. Other than that I'm fortunate to not really get many headaches aside from sinus reactions to allergies.

I am new to this board and in fact while I have struggled with depression for many years, I only just now thinking I seriously need to do anything about it. One thing I have noticed, especially lately, is that very often my bouts of depression are accompanied by really terrible headaches. I've had regular headaches since I was a kid so for me headaches aren't unusual, but when I noticed that the headache would come right along with the depression, I started to pay more attention to them. Often I will be feeling OK and then feel my head start to ache and then at the same time, my mood changes. By the time the pain is like a combination of spike through temples and head in a vice, I feel bad not just physically but emotionally. All I want to do is cry, lay in bed, not do anything, and it's hard to do anything, even though I struggle valiantly to do so. Sometimes taking aspirin will ease the pain but not a lot, unless it's a regular headache and not a "mood headache." Anyway, I get the feeling headaches like these are not uncommon in depressed people. Some people have told me I have migraines but these people don't realize I have depression. I'd be interested in hearing from other people who've had similar experiences. Are there particular conditions that cause this? I still have not gone to a doctor about this. I am really close to doing so, since I'm finding it hard to press on with life when every few days I get blindsided by this THING.
