hi jan, my experience is that meds can take six to eight weeks or more to reach their full potential. if you still don't feel like they are helping there are many others you can try, so don't give up. my other experience is that recovery often works by taking 2 steps forward and then 1 step back, so don't be too discouraged by the setbacks and again, don't give up! (it's a pretty good mantra) that other mantra that works for me is : this too shall pass... and it will!

greeneyes; I think most meds take a couple of months or more to kick in well, unless it is a tranquilizer type; which can work faster, but die off sooner. But probably you are feeling better by now...

Greeneyes, Welcome to the site. If you are having a bad reaction to a particular medication, you may want to check with your doctor or pharmacist, both can be of great assistance. Please take the time to look at our new Depression Program, tools and references at your finger tips. Everything is free and it may be of some help to you. Most of all you may post on the site or even use your CBT buddies (which is like a personal MSN) to contact and speak to other members whenever you like. The members here are supportive and knowledgeable. Please let us know how we can help, Josie ___________________________________ The Depression Center Support Team

Hi there, I am new to this group. My name is Jan and I am a 38 year old single female recently diagnosed with Clinical Depression. I think the closest thing I ever had to this was a bout about four years ago, but there were external factors that seemed to make it more uderstandible. This time it snuck up on me very insidiously and by the time I recognized what was wrong I was so far down I could barely function. I did finally go to a doctor about a month ago and she prescribed Lexapro. It did help, and I was feeling good for several days, but over the weekend seemed to slip back into a terrible way where I couldnt get out of bed. I was wondering. How long on Lex (10 mg) before I feel better, esp in the morning, and is it normal to have a "setback" like the one I had over the weekend? Please advise-thanks!!!!
