Hallucinations?

for 19 år siden 0 15 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I just joined the forum and found this discussion. I too have suffered from severe MDD symptoms. However, when I was put on Seroquel (an anti-psychotic), I saw bugs on the wall and usually out of the corner of my eyes. I am no longer on Seroquel and the hallucinations have stopped. If you are currently taking an anti-psychotic, that could be an explanation.

I realize that it's over a month since you posted your questions but ... I, too, have auditory and visual disturbances. Generally, I hear the voices of children coming from outside my bedroom window at night, plus the occasional voices in my head. I also regularly see small black "things" out of the corner of my eyes. No kittens, though. Every now and then I'll wake up in the middle of night feeling a "presence" in the room with me. I quickly turn to look and can just barely, maybe, catch a glimpse of something. Not my idea of a good time. jc

Hi Dasbenzi, It sounds like your situation may be complicated by your brain injury, so it could be a combination of things. Certainly stress by itself (sleep deprivation, sensory deprivation) can cause people to have minor visual and audio disturbances and hallucinations. In addition, some people have psychotic experiences, including audio and visual hallucinations during the worst part of their depression. Such a depression is called a depression with psychotic features. In that case the symptoms are often an indication of severe depression. Fortunately these symptoms can be treated, typically with a low dose of a typical (e.g. haldol) or atypical (e.g. zyprexa)antipsychotic. The symptoms usually go away as the depression improves. Again, in your case the situation may be complicated by your brain injury. This would be a good issue to discuss with your doctor. Does anyone else have minor visual or auditory disturbances? I have been noticing bugs that aren't there and disapear when I try to squish them and a fuzzy black kitten (creepy!) out of the corner of my eye now and again for the past few months. I sustained some brain damage several years ago, and I don't know if this is from that or my depression. Can depression even cause hallucinations?
