Negative Thoughts or Negative Feelings?

Hi, I agree. I often want to tell people "If I could 'think' my way out of this hopelessness, don't you think I would have done so a long time ago?" These negative feelings just seem to come out of left field sometimes. I'll have a day when everything seems to be going OK. I have a good outlook and am feeling like I can finally move forward and then - boom! A wave of hopelessness and despair hits me and knocks me right off my feet. It's devasting. Is it I think and therefore I feel or is it I feel and therefore I think? I honestly don't know. Kendy

After reading a book about changing our Negative Thoughts; I came to a conclusion in my own case anyway; that it is my Negative Feelings that come first, and then I get Negative Thoughts. It is interesting that in the Japanese language, they do not separate Thoughts and Feelings the way we do in English. There are many words in Japanese that indicate that our feelings and thoughts are combined in many different ways; and it is not just Negative thoughts of the mind, but Negative thoughts of the heart or feelings that start me off in the wrong direction leading to depressive thoughts. Anyone out there have any thoughts or feelings about that?
