Hi Stephen, Our Doctors seem to like giving out escitilopram when you first go to them, all I can say is try and stick with it as it has worked well for me. I did get tired at first but that soon went away and the meds started working, but the only way to tell that they work for me is when I try to stop taking them and after a couple of days the depression gets really bad. So take care and good luck.

Stephen, I'm so sorry to hear your meds are bringing you down. I agree with Rayne, Wellbutrin is working very well for me. I take that and Zoloft. It does take time for new medications to take affect in your body, but if it is making you feel that badly, make sure you keep your doctor fully informed of the side effects. Kelly

Hi Stephen, I know that your Dr. has just tried some other meds for you but if they're not working...have you tried Wellbutrin (Bupropion? I had a wonderful effect on them and I know so many others that it has helped as well. Maybe it's something you could add or switch to. Just a suggestion...and hang in there, it will get better.

hi, i'm not doing too good. My new drugs (Citalopram 10mg, SSRI) is giving me grief - making me even more depressed than before, hopefully that will wear off. I am still always tired. I am doing even worse at college (just got a 'U' in Computing A-Level exam - to you non-Brits, that's a fail). And many of my friends are shunning me because I'm no fun anymore - a real confidence booster!

Stephen, I can certainly relate to your thoughts and feelings, but please remember that you have someplace to go now with people that will support you. Please don't do anything when you aren't really thinking clearly. When we are in the middle of a depressive episode, our thoughts are not our own. It sometimes takes several tries for a doctor to get your medication right. Please be patient, and make sure you tell your doctor everything you are feeling mentally and physically. Even if you don't think it is significant he/she may see it as a sign and know what to do differently. Kelly

Hello Stephen, I too am sorry to hear you're having such a bad time. Do seek help though....please. I know things look bleak now but you should also know that being in a depressive state, your thoughts are not clear. I know that for myself once I finally found the right meds and started working on my self-esteem and other issues things started to turn around. You have to try. You say yourself that you have what most would perceive to be a happy life, so it is probably there you just have to find a way to acknowledge it. And please don't think I am harping but you are so young and you have so much in life to look forward to. Honestly, there is so much ahead of you to enjoy and experience. You will have a relationship, you will succeed at things, (remember we all have gifts), you have an opportunity to mold your life to what you want it to be. This in itself is a gift. Please try to look at your life and see the good things. Your post has touched me very deeply and I hope that you will take some of what I've said to heart. If you ever need to talk please add me to your CBT list.
