There is a great difference between the two. DBT was primarily developed to assist people to survive emotional turmoil while it is happening---ie. those with borderline personality traits struggle indefinitely with this type of experience---so rather that teach skills to eliminate/reduce, they are taught skills to cope and bear the temporary flood with the expectation that it will pass and get better.
CBT is relies on the premesis that our thinking drives our feelings and behaviors and in changing thinking--it will effect feelings and behaviors. This is what this site is teaching specifically. I hope this is helpful. I have done some research myself to see what options are available in modalities in treatment for depression. I am not sure what works best for me because I have been very inconsistent. Either technique's success depends on the ability and comittment of the person utilizing it. Take care.

Great questions Krissy :).
We will have to collaborate with our staff physicians at this time Krissy. Our moderators will be posting a reply once we have had a chance to research the difference between Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).
We will keep you posted!

What's the difference between CBT and DBT? I've done DBT before and reading through the sessions, it seems VERY similar to DBT. Are they the same thing, or closely related? Just curious...
