lamictal - gradually

Hello again - I'm still on lamictal. 150 mg daily. I also take Cymbalta. I take the lamictal at night, and cymbalta in the morning. I can honestly say that this combination, along with a one week intensive cognitive behavioral therapy program, has restored me to who I used to be, before being depressed and suicidal. I haven't felt this way for years. I can finally count on being emotionally stable. Just several months ago, I was ready to end my life. This medication made all the difference, I'm convinced. I've been treated for depression for many years, and have a lot of experience with it. This is the best I've ever felt. Normal. Really normal. No mood swings, no hypo mania, just steady level normal. I wish everyone the best - the struggles are so hard. But hang in and insist on getting what you need to have your health restored.

Kristen, your post was really helpful - thanks a lot! I'm encouraged that lamictal had good results. I'm sorry that you had to switch off of it, though. I hope you're finding success with something else. I will stand by to see what happens when my dose goes up a bit more. Best of luck to you! Lily

hi Lily! I was on Lamictal for a while, and up to date it has been my favorite med that I've been on. It took me 5 weeks to work up to 100 mg, and I had just began to really feel better about week 4. I had to go off of it, b/c it gave me a rash, and than can result in a serious side effect. Other than that, it was wonderful. Just remember that 75mg isn't really a big dose for Lamictal...we were shooting for 200mg with me, just for a baseline. Give it a few more weeks, and if it still isn't working, I'd say in a month, let your doctor know. Meds work differently for everyone! Hope I helped! Kristen

I am new here, and am also new to the medication lamictal. I'm just going up to 75 mgs now. I have noticed that there are more days when I feel more centered, but there are still the days with persistent negative emotions and thoughts. I've heard good things about this drug - does anyone have experience they can share? How soon did you feel better? Did you go up and down, or feel stable? How long have you been on it? Thanks for any comments you may make.
