Anyone have experience with MAOIs? Also, I don't know how much more I can take...

Hello members, MAOI have been shown to be effective for treating atypical depression. Due to the interactions this drug has with other medication and certain foods, it is currently used as a last resort. If you do decide with the help of your psychiatrist this is the way to go for you, be sure to take the extra time to review all the do's and don'ts with your pharmacist. Ask about side effects, what to do if you miss a dose... In the meantime, physical activity may help give your mood the boost it needs so start walking :) Keep us posted. I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I've got an appointment with a psychiatrist in a few weeks to discuss meds and I think there's a possibility that he'll suggest an MAOI. Apparently they are very effective for atypical depressions that are stubborn. If you feel like you're not sure how much longer you can fight - I say try which ever medication your PDoc suggests....and hang in there....and keep leaning on us here. It's a tough battle....I totally understand!

Hi capa, Fellow members will be by soon to share their experiences with these medications. You may also want to consult with your local pharmacist. They can be a great source of information for meds. Casey ________________________________ The DC Support Team

Hi, I'm hoping for some advice (aren't we all?). I've been on many SSRIs and Effexor, Wellbutrin, Lamictal, etc. Just got off Lexapro - nothing has done anything more than take the edge off. It's been over a year and a half and I can't believe that nothing is working. I see my psychiatrist once a week and feel that therapy has been really productive for some longer term issues. However...the depression isn't getting any better and is actually now getting worse...I'm open to anything at this point. We've talked about the possibility of MAOIs, but I don't know much about them, other than what I've read. I think I would be ok with the strict foods/meds that are prohibited, but I absolutely don't want any more weight gain (after gaining 20 lbs in the last year). Of course I know everyone reacts differently to every med, and yes, I have been discussing all this with my psychiatrist, but I'm curious if anyone here has any experience with MAOIs, or even TCAs, or maybe just what to do when nothing is working, and things are getting worse, and you don't know how much longer you can fight...Thanks for any feedback.
