Hey  Kattie I quit smokin about 7 or 8 years ago,  it dose  get better and the cravings go away! just try to stay away from the food ,I  ate to much as food started tasting sooo much better I gained alot of extra weight to much and now at 40 its hard to lose.But you can do it ! I don't know if it helps or not but try a tooth pic,  It helped me! take care.

Congratulations!  I've never smoked but but know how hard it is to kick a habit.  It takes a lot of courage to quit smoking. 
I understand that smoking was a release for you, but you are on your way to a healthier life.  Smokers set themselves up for a multitude of health problems.  Whether smoking causes the problem or not, it is never helpful in resolving the issue, so good for you!
 
Please hang in there.  Please use this site and speak candidly with your doctor on Tuesday.  Like Daily Llama said you may need some medication to help you through this.  I'd urge you to take it also, at least until you can get past this and set some foundation for your "after smoking" life.  Please let us know how you're doing.

Hi Kattie and welcome to the DC site.... there's lots of really helpful members in here who will share their experiences with you. I too have quit smoking and I am still having momentary flashes about cigarettes and depressing thoughts about "how good" a drag feels and other such nonsense - irrationalities!  But, I do understand how you can get to feeling really down and depressed without them... they've been such a part of our lives as smokers that it can take a really long time to get over the grieving pain that we have about "losing" them. My Mind still sets up images of sitting on a balcony overlooking a lake with a crispy glass of Munich beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other.  Terrible and false memories of pleasure!!
   The thing is to focus on the benefits  of not smoking. How your lungs feel now that they're not being assaulted by all those poisons in the smoke... how your sleep is deeper and better because you're breathing better...  How you and the house doesn't smell like a beer soaked messy bar on Cannery Row at 9 o'clock in the morning anymore !
 
    I'm so glad that you're going to see your doctor about this lingering depression and if s/he recommends an anti-depressant then all's the better and you can take the help it give you for a few months until you regain your equilibrium.
 
  Let us know what your Doc says on Tuesday... maybe bring in the Assessement questionnaire  with you ....

I am new and I am hoping this will help.
I quit smoking and now have increased depression and cannot shake it.
I had a few problems before, the doctors thought it was because of menopause.  But I am starting to think it is not that at all.
I am going to see the doctor on Tuesday to get it checked out.  But until then, this site was suggested.
