Have come to realize how very important it is for me to do something that promotes a sense of accomplishment each and every day.  I did not know it was that important.  My days of changing diapers and feeding and cleaning do not feel very accomplished.  Each day, every day I need to do something that promotes a sense of accomplishment.  Simple, simple idea.  Who knew?

I forgot to read through the entire Session 2 before going back and working the homework step by step.  I finally read to the end of the session and was pleasantly reminded how important  are planning and executing pleasant activities and accomplishments.  I got too caught up in the details and forgot to step back and see the whole picture... the whole session.  Goal setting is still so difficult, but experimenting with pleasant activities and accomplishments is kind of fun and almost immediately gratifying.  I forgot about doing that.  Balance, balance, balance....

You know what? Session two is hard... I think it should come later in the program.  Feeling grumpy and alone.  Would love to hear how other people are doing with it...

Hi ~m,

Thanks for posting this. I am sure many other members are running into the same obsticles.  Fear is a huge road block that needs to be addressed so why don't we examine this fear before moving forward?  If you are coming from a place of fear and feeling "stupid" then how could you get motivated?!

What are you afraid of specifically?
What is giving this fear power?
What is scary about goal setting?
What's the worst that can happen?
What's the best?

Let's start from these questions and move on from here.  I don't want you starting this session until you feel you are ready!  We will help you get there.

What's the best that could happen?
I'll meet my goals and become a more content and productive person.

Answering the questions - take 2

What specifically am I afraid of?
old answer: I don't know and it makes me angry that I am feeling this way since I've worked this session before.
new answer:  I'm not really sure, but if I were to guess it might be that I'm afraid I'll fail at setting any new goals and get really mad and hate on myself again.

What is giving this fear power?
old answer: Probably old restraints that were needed for safety, but no longer have a place in the here and now.
   new Answer: previous life experience

What is scary about goal setting?
old answer:  Thinking for myself.  Wanting... anything.  Pressure to be something maybe I'm not or could never be.
new answer:  I'm not really sure, but if I were to guess it might be that if I set a goal it means I'm tapping into something I want  ... something I WANT ... which gets me believing in possibilities and then it won't happen because that's just the way life is and I won't be able to push the want back into it's permanent hiding place.

What's the worst that can happen?
old answer: The hope that I feel from previous small successes will be pulled out from under my feet... just be an illusion... it will all turn out to be pointless... an absurd expenditure of time and effort.
new answer:  I'll feel terrible and discontented and more depressed than ever.

What's the best that could happen?
old answer: I don't know but thinking about it makes me want to cry and then my thoughts just stop.  I don't understand this reaction.

Because you don't learn anything from I don't know It's a road block with no forward movement. Also, many people say, "I don't know" when they want to avoid something.

I guess we can allow, "I'm not sure but if I were to guess...."

How does that sound?

Ashley, why is "I don't know" not an answer?
