Thanks for the advice. I will be honest with my boss as he has been nothing but supportive. I'll let you know how it goes on Monday......

Hi Rosie,

Going back to work can be stressful.  I also feel that I owe everyone an explaination for everything I do, but I'm learning that I don't.  I will offer explainations to those who that I'm not functioning the way I do on a "normal" basis at work.  I am usually a highly productive person (obsessive even).   I have not been lately. I only tell them enough so they have an idea that I'm going through an issue personally and my mood does not reflect on them nor is it because of them.  Sometimes this is all they need to know.  It gives them perspective and does not make them feel like I'm harboring an issue that involves them.  Anyone who asks for details you do not want to share should be left with their questions.  You only need to put them at ease not give them gossip fodder.  Those in power positions may need a more detailed explaination but not full detail and anything you reveal should be in confidence and kept that way.  Bottom Line is you are not obligated to tell anyone anything you are uncomfortable with.

Let us know how it goes, but you determine who you share personal issues with.

Try not to worry... about worries.... Just go and see how it goes without munching to much on it. As for coleagues.. ehm they are humans and they like to talk. So I think that a short or no explanation of your leave is better. You don't have to explain anything.

Rosie,   Going back to work after a leave of absence can be a stressful event.  We recommend that you move at your own pace and be honest with your employer. Your colleagues don't need to know why you've been away. It's up to you to decide if you feel comfortable sharing with them.   Does your employer offer any type of assistance programs?  This may be a good opportunity to see if there are other employees that have faced similar situations that you can speak with.     Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator

I have seen my therapist a few times and she recommends I go back to work next week. I am dreading it. I was actually starting to feel better but have this worry that when I go back to work I will feel worse. I wanted to try and cut down on my working hours a bit, just not work later than required but now due to a financial situation I am going to have to work overtime to get through the next few months. I am a bit worried about what to tell people. I was just going to say I had personal stuff to sort out and leave it at that. It is not really their business, I am just one of those people who feel obliged to explain myself to everyone. At least the side effects have started getting better and I feel a little more like getting up in the morning. I know the antidepressants won't be a magic cure but I hope they start working properly soon! Any advice for coping with work after 2 weeks of therapy and soul searching? I am starting to feel tired just thinking about it.....
