Hi Kh25,

I'm sorry to hear about your panic attacks - they are the pits!!  I've had panic attacks since I was a child.  I don't like that out of control feeling they bring.  I am so sorry that you have had to experience them.

Unfortunately, I think panic attacks and health issues often go hand in hand.  When you are not at the top of your game, so to speak, it is more difficult to feel in control.  Allowing others to be in control of your health - doctors, tests, insurance companies, etc. - is enough to bring on a panic attack all by themselves.  The uncertainty of an illness adds to these.

Talk frankly with your doctors, let them know just how much these attacks are bothering you.  There is medication that can help and that you may not have to use forever.  It can make this time in your life easier to get through however.

Hang in there Kh25, you are understood here and among friends.

hi kh - sorry to hear about all the back and forth to hospitals, no fun at all. i take klonopin for anxiety - also on lexapro and trying abilify out. it's russian roulette or trial and error to find what works for you, but don't give up - your mood can improve with the right meds and time and understanding. hope you hang in there and post here often, take care

Hi Kh25. I sure know what you are going through!. I remember the first time I had a panic attack.n It came out of no where! My heart was pounding so hard, I could'nt take normal breaths! I was kind of panting really fast. My limbs felt king of numb and I just KNEW I was DYING!!!!!  I went to the ER and hear the same thing you did...it was just a panic attack. WOW!!  I could hardly believe I could feel like I was actually dying but really not have anything too wrong with me. In fact, in 3 years I went to the ER 3 times thinking I was dying. So I know how hopeless and discouraged you feel.

I am so sorry you are having so many medical problems to deal with. I also have some health problems and had to quit work abou 12 years ago and now receive disability. Health problems are seriously depressing, I do hear you and my heart goes out to you. Please write back. I hope we can get to know each other.

By the way, my doctor has me on an antidepressent that also controls panic attacks. It takes about two weeks for most antidepressants to work. Maybe you are also on one that helps panic attacks. I'm taking Effexor and Wellbutrin.

Talk to you soon.  Donna

 KH25,
Welcome to the boards! Thank you for sharing your story with us. There are many people within this support group that share the same questions and concerns as you.  We are all a group of individuals who support each other.

If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests.  These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physician's advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor.

We also have developed a Panic Program.  This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above.  Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead.

Many here have struggled with starting or stopping medications. In general, most medications of this nature take time to build a therapeutic level in your system. As it does, the effect it produces becomes more pronounced and stable. In addition to medication, some members find it useful to use relaxation techniques before going to bed and as soon as you get up in the morning. It may take a few tries before your body gets into the habit of being calm. Deep breathing will definitely help this process.

It is important that you try to eat healthy during this time. Your food intake can have incredible effects on your mind and well-being. Drinking plenty of water and eating enough fruits and vegetables may certainly help!

Members, any advice for KH25 on what your experience was like when you first had an attack?

Hello All,

For the past month, I have been dealing with many health problems, and still on medical leave from work.
Which has caused me to have emergency surgery, countless visits to the ER, and two stays.
I started to become very depressed, then one day I had a panic attack ( I don't have a history of this) I was not even sure what it was that I had. I just felt like I was dying!

I have since had two more panic attacks, my chest closes up, and you know when you get an IV, the coldness that runs thought you? That's how I've been feeling. I can hardly sleep. Don't feel like eating at all. I have pushed everyone away. I'm sad, and do nothing but cry.
I did see my dr yesterday, about getting put on some medication. I feel like she thought the panic attacks were no biggie. I looked up the meds that she started me on, and it  said it was only going to help the depression part. but what about these panic attacks? When will this feeling in my chest ever go away? I started taking the meds yesterday, and had a mild panic attack last night.

It's just a lot to deal with. Being sick, and now I am so depressed.
I had GI problems that made me very sick, along with endo, and IC... so it is hard to tell them.. yeah, I cannot eat because I am depressed, or is it because my body is still healing?
