Hey Ben,

Do you mind if I ask how old you are?

It sounds like you've been through a lot of trauma (child abuse actually can lead to PTSD).  And it also sounds like you're not quite sure where to begin.  This depression stuff can be very confusing, not to mention that most of us have thinking difficulties as one of our symptoms.  This is just a suggestion, but maybe just start with session one and take it as slowly as you need to.  I also found getting personal therapy really really helpful to supplement this program.  It allows me to get into stuff in a way more personal way than I can here.  I don't know if you have access where you are, but when dealing with childhood trauma, it's really important to have someone help you navigate through it.

I'm glad you're here.  Keep posting.

Hi everyone,

Would first of all just like to thank you all for the warm responses, I feel very welcome already! Printing work out sounds like a very good idea to me, when the chance arises I'll definitely do that, as it cancels out many potential problems for me.

I'm not too sure what I hope to get out of this course. A greater understanding of my problem would be the first big hurdle for me - I'm not sure if this is the best way to phrase it, but it would sort of clear my conscience, or gain a more intense focus on achieving some stability emotionally and mentally.

I don't think PTSD plays any part in my situation, as I've been suspicious from an early-ish age that I may have certain personality disorder traits. These stem from a violent childhood, from which I lost a lot of confidence and extroversity when I hit my teens. I find it unusual though that this didn't happen sooner, because it only began to take effect once my father was put behind bars for what he did to the family.

I'm not sure if my post portrays it, but I'm plagued by a lot of confusion about the whole thing, so I guess that's my first major hurdle to get across, to be able to answer my own questions without second-guessing myself.

As ever, thanks for reading and for your support.

Hi Ben :)

I hope you stick around.  It kind of seems that working this program is a lot like excercise.  I'm dragging my feet about moving on to the next lesson, and I don't feel quite as well as I did (although that could be from many factors).  I'm not sure if you could bring material when you have to be gone, but that's a great idea.  And if you were at least able to get started before you have to leave, you would have some tools under your belt to use while away.

So welcome!  This really is a nice site, and everyone is very supportive.  And I thank you too for serving :)

Ben, Welcome to the forum.  Was glad and intrigued that you used the word team. I like it.

I think if you work it one paper, document no matter what your assignment that you could pick up where you left off.  I think you'd need that; unless your memory is better than mine.  I'd have to be meticulous.  I think it is important to print the worksheets and have them available.  I think you can still copy the lessons and exercises; put them in a ringbinder and if possible take them with you.

I'm not familiar with the military in UK; however, here they would provide treatment and not have ramifications (be kicked out) depending on the severity.  I don't know "where" you've been in terms of your duties, but does your depression have a post traumatic stress component.  If so, it's important to get that treated and be cognizant of and understand the downward spiral that depression can bring.

You'll notice from my posts, I post alot, have opinions.  If they are helpful GREAT, if they aren't - it's okay.
You can also copy the extra sessions at the botton amd even though the "exercises) are not open until you complete a session, they are explained in the session.  You could create your own form or method of documentation.

Welcome and post when you need to.
Thanks for serving in the military, you have my upmost respect and gratitude!

Ben,

Welcome to the site!  I am glad you found us.  The program certainly can help you.  It is important to follow it through but even doing parts of the program can help.  It is a lot of work but making an plan for yourself will make the program easier to follow.  Try not to get overwhelmed.  Do a little of the program day by day.  What do you hope to learn from this program?

I'd just like to introduce myself as Ben, a 19 year old lad from the UK. I came across this site as a result of looking for ways of sorting myself out without the need of medical attention. This is mainly due to the consequences this would have on my career. (I'm an Infantry Soldier) And, I must say, I'm really glad to have found this site!

Another reason for trying to sort things out of my own accord is I like to play things down a bit, I come across as a nice lad, and would be mortified if anyone were to find out or become suspicious of my mental state of mind.

I just have a question for you guys if that's okay. First off is about the courses offered on this site. I'm really looking forward to taking my first step, but I'm slightly worried about whether or not I'd be able to realistically see it through. My main concern is I don't know if the progress I make could be undone if I had to temporarily break off from the course halfway through it. (This wouldn't be down to personal choice)

Well, with all that being said, I'd just like to thank whoever reads this, and thank the team for making such a thoughtful site.

Ben.
