Hi Anxietyinsomnia,

I am not sure I fully understand your question but I will do my best to answer.  If I understood wrong let me know.

When making a thought record you only have to identify a cognitive distortion if one is present.  If you are experiencing a positive event it might be that you are not making any cognitive distortions; therefore, none need to be challenged.  Being aware of your change in moods and recording your thoughts that led up to this change will help to identify cognitive disortions.

I am glad you are experiencing positive results from recording your thoughts!  Keep it up!

So, I just noticed an improvement in my mood.  According to the instructions, I need to do a thought record.

I can describe the activity, date and time, and I can describe my thoughts about the event, and rate my mood.

However, under "Distortions," am I supposed to assign a cognitive distortion to my positive event?  Or challenge my thoughts?

Honestly, if I think about my change in mood, I think that I am personalizing a situation that I shouldn't, but it's improving my mood.  Is that something I need to address?
