Hello!

If school is important to you, then you don't have to let anyone stand in your way of getting it done. I am almost 40 years old and going back to school in the fall. I have had people wonder why since I am older, but I decided I didn't care and am going anyway. I only registered for 2 classes so that I can keep  my stress low (while I get help with medication for the depression), but even just one class at a time will get you/me the degree eventually! Open University sounds like a great opportunity!

I am so sorry to hear about your relationship issues. That sounds really frustrating. I hope you follow your heart and do what you think is best for yourself.

I just started the program here and am almost finished with the first week. It is very helpful and enlightening. I highly recommend it.

Welcome!

Hello Alessandra,

Welcome to the depression center. I hope that writing about your situation and story has helped you put things into perspective. It sounds like you have a few things to think about...maybe some decisions to make. I think if you get started using the program you will begin to learn a lot about your depression and the way you challenge or not challenge negative thoughts...etc. Either way, welcome and look forward to hearing more about your situation.

Hi, my name is Alessandra and I am university student in the UK, but I am originally Italian. I started having problems when I first started university in 2003. It was the first time I hd been away properly from my family. The first few weeks, I didn't have any problems. I enjoyed university life and made new friends. A month or so after I started uni I started feeling the pressure of studying and keeping a social life. Slowely I became more and more isolated from everyone. I found my current boyfriend then, and beings he lived quite a big distance from the university I would end up always skipping my lessons to go to his. I felt safe there, and any problems I had would seem to go away when I was there.
My relationsip initially was great. I found him really friendly and quite an outgoing person. I then realised he was quite a manipulating type of person. He's someone who I find quite selfish and bullying. Someone might ask why I would want to be in a relationship like this, but I feel in a way stuck in this relationship and also because there are moments during the day I see the person I met.
I am currently still studying although I am doing a distance learning course with the Open University, but I am always afraid that due to feeling moody a lot of the times I will end up quiting my studies, and then I am not sure what I will do. My parents are always wondering why I have decided to go back into studying. They think I didn't study the first time round, but they don't really realise what I am going through with mood swings and having two learning disabilities.
