Welcome to the group! You have come to the right place.  You have already recieved some great advice from our members.  Also be sure to check out the online program for lots of information on how to challenge negativity.  Sections 4 and 5 will be particularly helpful to you.
 
How is being negative holding you back?  How would being more positive make a difference in your life?
 
Take some time to think about the above questions.  If you feel comfortable, post your answers here and we will help you sort out your thoughts and get motivated to tackle the program.  When you are ready make a schedule for when you plan on working on the program.  The program is a lot of work but when you put the effort in you will notice a difference.  We will be here to support you every step of the way!
 
Lastly, please feel free to tell us about yourself! I am looking forward to getting to know you better.

I find myself constantly dwelling on a specific thing.  I think this makes me aware.  Obviously you are aware of your negative thoughts too,  You challenge your negative thoughts. There's a series of questions you can work through that ask (moderators can help me)   What is the worst that can happen?  How will that make you feel? What is the best that can happen?  How will that make you feel?  What can I do to prepare for the outcome of my negative thought becoming a reality?  (I think I'm getting off track with my questions) but the moderators were posting these and they are somewhere in the Session work.  They work wonders for helping process them.  I have them in a notebook (small handy one) in case I need them somewhere besides home!!!!

I agree with WEllandhappy.  I also think wildwildfire has a good point.  A good way to relax a bit after procesing through is finding something enjoyable to do.  They do say laughter is the best medicine and I'm not one to find alot of things humorous so I love it went a belly-rolling laugh comes along.

Preventing negative feelings is hard, but this program focuses on challenging and stopping them in their tracks.  I echo wellandhappy's recommendation about learning and using the thought records.  The program is very  good about addressing common concerns about using thought records, too.
 
In the meantime though, I find that laughter helps me a ton.  When I was working a crazy job last year, I made it a point to watch funny TV shows a few times a week.

By learning to challenge challenge challenge my thinking by using the tools here. Is the only thing that has worked for me!! The thought records are a truly amazing tool. Hope it works for you as much as it has worked for me.
