I agree on the below.

After I started with the mindfulness meditation I went through a period where I was enjoying silence so much (and I still do) so I stopped listening to music on my way to work, to 'enjoy the silence'. It worked very nicely for a few months, until I realised I had slipped back into the old and familiar habit of overthinking and that instead of using my commute time to 'enjoy the silence' I was using it to do lots of stinking thinking instead!!! Talk about a depressing start to my day, lol.

So now I bring my iPod loaded with my favourite songs and I sing my way to work :)

Right on spot about taking care of ourselves Jewel. I am learning how to do this just now (at 35 years of age) but is paying off. And you are right also on making yourself a priority. Today I had so much work to do that for a second I thought about skipping my visit to the gym but I decided not to, and it feels nice :)

Even though I don't commute much or get stuck in traffic, I think I need to start thinking about how to make those kinds of situations more appealing. Take care of myself, even if a little at first. Right now because of my anxiety even the thought of the simplest tasks can be crippling so I take even just a step towards it and take my time. But when I get better I need to be kind and thoughtful to myself and find a way to make activities more enjoyable. This may help lessen or prevent depression. The problem in life is often that we don't have time to take care of ourselves, especially if we have demanding careers and young children, a family and home to take care of. But I need to simplify and make myself a priority. Thanks for your thoughts, opened my eyes to some things. Need to try to remember to keep this in perspective. At this point, just trying to get my life back and keep hope.

Are often caught in traffic? On commutes that are long? Are you running lots of errands?

One great way to encourage positive thoughts is to bring along some cut-up vegetables or small, portioned amounts of healthy snacks, to keep your mouth occupied and keep you focused. Bring along your favorite CD, and make a stop that involves doing something nice for you.

It doesn’t have to be a negative experience and members can help you get through it, by sharing their experiences.
