Feel kind of bad for dumping things in here, but since I last posted, a lot has improved. I have been working through the sessions on this site, which has helped with the day-to-day. I went to a psychiatrist that is basically there to assess what's going on and send them other people based on that. They're going to send me to a councillor that is close to my school, so hopefully that works out. In relation to school, I found out I only needed 3 more courses to graduate, so my parents are cutting down my course load so I am only taking a few courses, most of the material I have already covered in my other classes, which feels like it's lifted off a huge burden off my shoulders. Things are looking much better, though I still have weeks where I am down. So all in all, things are looking up!

Teaparty,
I am so glad that things are working out for you with your school and your parents.  I do hope you continue to come here and utilize these resources as well.  Another class for you.  This one you work at your own pace and you are not graded so there is no pressure.  Remember to post often, even the smallest thing can result in suggestions or opinions that might benefit you.

Again, I am so glad that you are on track with your parents and school.  It sounds like you overcame your ability to approach both your parents and the school and that's a great accomplishment.  Keep up the good work and the good communication.

I look forward to hearing from you again.

Dear goofy, thanks again for the advice.

The other day my parents went to parent-teacher interviews and found out about how terribly I was doing in school, and we ended up talking about how I was feeling. They had been suspecting for a bit, and after talking with my teachers about it they asked me about it. Turns out our family has a long past of depression. Anyways, they're really supportive and we're going to try to find a councillor this next week, and get me back on track in school. I'm going to continue using the resouces on the site, though.

Thank you so much for the advice, you were right.

I am so glad you've taken the time to look around the site as you said I also found it enlightening when I came here the first time.  I found many useful tools.  I'm glad you are exploring....keep it up!  I think you are on the right track.

I guess depending on your age whether you are going to see a nurse at a high school or college and/or talk to your parents.  I think a perfect time would be in the car.  Usually there are few distractions and one on one type conversation. You could at least make a comment such as I really have something I need to discuss with you (if addressing a parent) or end it with "to discuss with someone".  I have some concerns about my health.  Share what you've shared below.  Or you may print it and give it to them (obviously not in a car) so that they may read how you are feeling and how your feelings are effecting you.  You may also share with them that you've been seeking and checking out an online support group (The Depression Center).  Talking to your parents is going to depend on what type of relationship you have with them and how open the communication is amongst you.

Again,  I do think you need to consult with someone around you unless you have the capabilities of seeking a medical consult utilizing your own resources.

I would like to hear more from you.  I look forward to your posts.  The above is just some suggestions, it may spark an idea of your own (my intent).

Thank you very much for your advice, I have tried various stress reduction activities such as meditation, walking, martial arts, keeping a journal and most recently dance, but they don't seem to help much. I also have been exploring the site and reading as much as possible, which has been a rather enlightening experience.

I do know I should tell someone, but I am very unsure on how to approach anyone on the topic.

Hi, I'm glad you felt comfortable posting here.  You didn't say how old you were but seem to infer that you were under 18.  Either way I do think you should talk to your parents about this, maybe after consulting with a school nurse or whatever.  You can be evaluated to determine if you have depression or some other health issue.  I think with the sudden onset of these symptoms, as well as the fact that they are getting worse and interfering with your life, that you should consult a doctor.  I also think your parents should know.  I think they will be disappointed if you don't tell them.  I think it would be worse to know that my son or daughter was having a health issue and did not share the information.

I also agree with MediumMoodSwing that exercise is very helpful and will add that meditation can be as well.

One more thing and I'll hush.  There is a test, it's not a diagnostic test, but one that can be used when you consult a physician or school nurse or your parents.  It's printable and it helps evaluate (not diagnose) what is going on with you.  It is something you must answer honestly.  Don't be dismayed by the results, use them as a tool to get what you need to make you better.

Read the parts about what is depression, etc and look around at the sessions.  I must reiterate what the moderator said in that this program has helped me tremendously.  I doubted I had a problem for some time (a couple of years) before I sought treatment and this only made getting better harder and longer.  Don't wait, act now.

Please let us know what is happening and post to keep us informed.  Ask questions we look forward to being able to respond to your posts and hearing what you have to say about ours.

Besides taking this program, you should also talk to your school nurse or doctor about your mental state.  Whether you current mental state is a temporary state or permanent one, it is always good idea to get some professional opinion.

My suggestion for you is to take a relaxed walk for a half hour everyday because stress will make your mental state worse.

My suggestion:   A relaxed walk for a half hour everyday for a week and see if this will help.
