Welcome Don,

It sounds like you sure have a lot on your plate. This site is very helpful and has a lot of information and practical applications as well. I have been following the program for about 8 weeks now and just started session 7. I am starting to feel better. I'm glad to hear you are eating healthier and going to the gym. I haven't started the healthy eating but the gym sure is helpling a lot. I, too, go in the morning and it starts my day off right. I hope you find the help you need. There is also a sister site AlcoholHelpCenter.net that might be of some help to you.

Good luck! You're on the right track!

Hi Everyone,

I just signed up for this site and have started reading through the material. I was diagnosed as bipolar 2 years ago and have kinda messed my life up in that time. Stopped meds and quit seeing my Dr. last year but have started again early this year. Have had a number of external factors that would cause anyone to be depressed (I think) including loss of marriage, loss of job and career (still unemployed), lost my house (long story) so staying with cousins while I get my head on straight. I have a mother and brother who continue to need constant attention and help due to diagnosed / un-diagnosed issues coupled with substance abuse so looking to them for any support or guidance is completely counter productive. I quit drinking this year but suffered a relapse so back at that battle again but going to win it this time!

This year I experienced the worst depression I had ever been in. In the past I had suffered through my depression on my own and, as I look back on it now, I realize that I have suffered from depression quite a bit in my life. I also see the manic side of this disorder and some of how that has affected me (and those around me). I would like to think that I am on a road that is leading out of depression but I will tell you that the tears flow freely when I read some of your posts; they really hit home and I continue to find myself very emotional at the slightest things.

I joined a gym last week and have gone 4 times in the early morning. That way I get up and get my day started and I am doing something for me. I have started eating right since coming to my cousins and I am improving that as time goes along.
I know I need to find more things that are for me and that make me happy and also work at some things that will give me a sense of accomplishment. That is how I used to be.... before depression came and took me down at the knees!  I continue to job hunt but at the same time I need to build and keep a balance that allows me mental, physical and relational growth. So if the Dr., the meds and some work and communication through this site will help with the mental aspect. Going to the gym and eating/sleeping right will look after the physical (and consequently the mental side as well). Then I think I gotta get out and see my friends and perhaps make some new ones here on this site.

It feels better just typing this.

Thanks,

Don
