Welcome to forums. I hope you take advantage of some of the tools presented on these program. CBT works but it takes some motivation to keep working on it. And most important, pay attention to perfectionist tendencies.
Good job on already reading the first session! That is a lot of progress already; you have only been here for a week! Each session should take you at least a week to complete and work on the homework so no rush - break it down into small chunks if it feels tobe too much.
Following your doctors instructions on medication is important. I have heard members here say medication has helped them stay focused enough to complete the program. Planning and getting motivation is very hard when depressed- be easy on yourself and reward yourself for small goals reached. For a person who is not depressed motivation normally proceeds action - when depressed the action has to come before the motivation - in other words get working at it and you will soon see results and it will soon become easier.
Take it one step at time - we are here to support you every step of the way.
I'm going to try to be organized enough to fill the spreadsheet accordingly.
I was planning to "book" some time to myself, every night, time that my kids are sleeping.
My problem is, after almost a month taking the medication (a very low dose), I stopped because I'm going to join in a study from a local hospital and I think stopping the medication was not good for me. I realized how much I need medication at this moment.
But I don't accept this situation, I'm not sure how to proceed, I have to organize my schedule and it's very hard when you are depressed. Stick to rules, hours and routines is hard when you are still learning how to deal with my MDD. But I'm going to try, I can't live like that. I have to do something.
Glad you have found us. It sounds like you already have a good understanding of depression; CBT and physical exercise are great forms of treatment. Also, be sure you are following your Doctor's recommendations.
This program does require reading and homework but if you put the effort in you will notice a difference. It may be helpful for you to set up a reasonable schedule for yourself in regards to when you plan on working on the program. What do you think that schedule would look like. How are you going to ensure you stick with it?
My goal joining in this program is to start my journey to full remission. I've been diagnosed with MDD a month ago, on waiting list for counselling.
Depression hurts and takes a lot from our lives. I refuse to accept this situation, I don't want to be in need of a medication for the rest of my life, so I'm going to try CBT, change my diet, do some physical activity, whatever, there are so many things to do. But one step at a time, first I've started taking an antidepressant (Cipralex), and now I'm going to try CBT.
Hope to share some thoughts, experiences and get ideas in how to deal with my MDD.
