Time for A Change

Hi Juli, welcome to the DC.  What task are you on in Session 1?  Have you started doing the mood tracker and done some of the readings?  Do you have any questions or concerns about the program?  I've been through the sessions twice and am back for a tune-up.  Each time I learn something new and can get back on track quicker than ever.  I'm glad you are here and hope we can be of some help.

Thanks for the welcome Ashley! So far I like the program very much, I like being given tasks with homework and goals so I find this kind of thing works very well for me.

Welcome Mintano,

Glad you found us. I'm sorry to hear about the cycle you are in. That must be very frustrating and confusing!

CBT has really good results for people with depression/anxiety and that is what this program is based on. Do the homework and stick with it and you will likely see results within the first few sessions. I also encourage you to read and post in other people's discussion. Much of the learning you gain here will be from others as they are going through similar feelings and struggles as you are. The more information you can gain while here the better off you will be.

Hope to read more from you soon! How are you finding the program so far?

Thanks eleveno, yep I've done a bit of CBT in the past and found it very helpful. It has been years since I have done it which in hindsight obviously never should have let those skills be lost! From what I've seen I like this program, I'm a big reader and I love the homework aspect, got my assignments for week 1!

Hi Mintano, welcome to the forums and for the conclusion of session 1. With CBT you are responsible for yourself but you have to work and wait at least one month to evaluate the effectiveness of the program. Good luck, we are for any help you need.

Hey, I'm Juli. Just signed up today and read through section 1. Been struggling with anxiety since I was very little which morphed into depression as I reached the teen years. Every year I struggle with episodes of depression, very frustrating as I'm sure everyone on here knows! I've been on practically every medication combination out there. Recently we had a bit of a breakthrough when I was treated as though I had Bipolar Depression. Funnily enough I'm doing the best I have in year and the worst at the same time. I go from waking up full of energy and optimism, making it to work everyday and functioning at 100% to not being able to/wanting to wake up or get up, no energy, not making it into work and functioning at 0%. Cycling like this every week has me exhausted and obviously is not healthy. When I was younger I did quite a bit of therapy and though at the time I hated doing it (ugh teenagers) it definitely did help. Nowadays I don't have health insurance (working on it) so can't really afford therapy. Last year I did go to a therapist for 3 months ($150/session eek!) and I just wasn't getting anything from this particular woman and frankly couldn't afford it any longer. Luckily the medications I'm on have cheap generics so I am able to afford that. I read about the online therapy here and I signed right up. If I can't afford to go to someone I'm hoping this will be the next best thing. /end novel. If you got through that congratulations!
