Group Discussion on Session 1

for 14 år siden 0 199 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I have decided the best way for me to keep track of my symptoms & activities is get organized and make myself a homework folder for this program.  I have printed off enough Activity trackers and mood tracker monitoring forms to get me through 1 week.  I will also be printing up a a couple of session to take with me on my camping trip to the desert for 5 days next week.  I am not sure if I will be able to do 1 session a week and be prepared to participate in the group discussion each week.  I really feel I am going to need more time to digest and process each session and than put the information into action.  Each time I go back and read a session I learn more, it makes more sense to me and I am more able to work the program.  My main goal is to work the program at my pace and to get better.  I have to make my getting well my first priority and put myself first for once in my life.  I really feel good about the progress I have made so far. I'll drop in to the group if I have progressed to the next session. Well I have got to  for now and get back to working the program and completeing my folder.
Good luck to everyone on this journey.

I found this session very informative.  It really opened up my eyes to the causes of depression and I feel CBT is the key to me getting well.  I am very excited about the prospect of not having depression control my life and feel there is real hope for me.
I feel it would be a lot easier for me to stay focused and movitated on the program if we could stay on topic and address issues that are off topic by starting another thread or going to one of the sister sites for smoking related issues or drinking issues or addiction issue etc where they can better address those specific issues. I am not sure how I feel about 2 pages a day at this time.  I had planned on joining the group once weekly to review and discuss the session we had just completed.  I think I will need 2 wks to get used to working on my goals.  I do not have a definite time set for the amount of time it will take me to complete each session.  I am willing to join the group and discuss the topic once a week at the minimum ,or more if I am in town where I  have access to my computer and can get on line.

How about we start by doing two pages a day?  If we need more time and we all agree then we can take our time.  The great thing about doing it as a group as we are actually will be doing it as a group! We can help keep eachother motivated.  So how does that sound? Does two pages a day seem reasonable for the first session? You can have one day off and one day where you only focus on one page.  Let me know what you think.  If anyone ever feels overwhelmed let us know and we can adjust.  We are all in this together!

Lance,  don't you dare smoke!   Come on now, we can do this!

The main problem I had in doing my homework, keeping up with symptoms, and activities was making it a daily goal and developing a habit of doing it.
I eventually learned that what worked for me was to keep my computer on the Depression Center when I was working on homework and/or doing other things (like meditation) related to helping me with my depression.  I do know the time I spent doing these initial activities helped me.  The more thorough I was the better I think it helped me.
I also took longer than a week to get through each session.  At the time, a week at a time was too fast for me.

The thing that stuck with me the most from this session was the explanation of CBT and how changing thoughts and behaviors would help me with my depression.  It was motivating!

Members,

Starting the Depression Center Program on your own can be intimidating. Although it is designed to be user friendly often people don’t know where to start or fear that they will be overwhelmed with information or homework. If you think that starting the program alone will be too difficult, why not join a group of others on the journey? Having the company of other people who are at the same place in the program may help you to feel like you are not going it alone. So, let’s begin to work our way through the Depression Centre program together, as a group.  Each week we will work on one session of the program. Members please ask questions, offer advice, and discuss your thoughts with others working their way through the same session.

Session 1: This session gives us an overview of depression and cognitive behavior therapy(CBT).  The goals of Session 1 are:

  • get a better measure of your symptoms
  • teach you about the symptoms of depression
  • discuss what we know about the causes of depression
  • introduce you to (CBT) and how the Depression Program is designed to help you
  • give you homework so you can monitor your symptoms
  • describe why doing homework on a daily basis is very important
  • help you get organized so you’ll get the most out of your sessions

Members, what did you learn from the session? What are going to be the main challenges to keeping track of your symptoms and activities?

Please share.
