I feel like I am being attacked here--the post was not even about that to begin with. I have to say that the post needs to be re-read carefully as I am not downing any method of quitting. I am simply stating the dangers of re-introducing any type of nrt AFTER your quit and you are OFF it completely for ahwile REGARDLESS of your quitting method!!!! Hi Melanie, I said anyone who has gone cold turkey OR has come off the NRT. I said both and addressed both types of quitting methods. In fact, that is how I start my post... I support which ever method is right for you. Rusty, yes you are correct. There were 2 suggestions that I return to a gum or lozenge for my crave. I did neither nor did I light up. Thanks for your support here :) I suggest anyone who thinks I am downing NRT's to go back and CAREFULLY re-read what I posted originally to begin with in this thread. I KNOW it is clear. I did not misrepresent anything. I spent a bit of time trying to get all that info together and I don't feel I should have re-post it again. I have to agree. Right now, the cravings I do have, are all in my mind---it's the habit of wanting...it takes 6 weeks to break a habit and only a few days to a week to start up a new one....at this point in my quit, I am looking at it now as a habit...I have 3 more weeks to break this habit and a life time of continuing the new one of being a non smoker. The weeks leading up to breaking this 'habit' are making me stronger to hold onto that freedom of being chained to such a nasty habit and addiction. I know since I had quit, I experienced this awesome mind clarity and it lasted all the way up until I had went to sleep! What a feeling!! I never experienced that before. That is the *exact* feeling I want to have! And I will do whatever it takes to keep it too :) Ok, so I am babbling BUT it makes sense to me :) Great info Eve :) Great info! Everyones quit is very different and the help and support that each person needs is different. The only thing that we can pass is our own experience and it is very important for the providers of information to know that thay are simply providing their experience just as the readers of these posts must know that what they are reading is simply the experience of another who is in the process of quitting smoking. Nothing can actually take the place of conference with ones doctor or healthcare practioner, their counsellor or another addiction and mental health care professional. Eve, thanks for the important reminder. Duckie, unfortunately, it takes more than 6 weeks to get over nicotine, since this isn't only a habit but also an addiction. But I like your method of substituting another habit for this one. What is your new habit? Crave the Quit! Melanie, Eve was not saying that everyone should go cold turkey. She was saying that if you HAVE gone cold turkey, once you've been off smoking and the nicotine is out of your body, it is counterproductive to reintroduce it to satisfy a crave. Eve, I'm glad you posted this, because I noticed that someone suggested that you chew some gum or use the patch when you were going through your bad crave the other night. At 15 days of no nicotine, you would be taking a giant leap backward if you started using nicotine again in any form.
