Thank you so much for sharing your stories - Luna, I cried as I read your poem -so sad yet inspirational at the same time. The time you take to share a part of yourself is so important to "newbies" like me. It reminds me that we're all in this together, and that we all have life problems we must face. Smoking is not going to help that or change that, it only means you have one more big problem - smoking! Thanks again! Ang, Can't give you personal stories of how I got through life changing things smoke free, but will tell you that you are in the right place. I wanted to be sure and answer you since there aren't allot of us on the west coast that are on here far as I can tell, so I may be your last shot at getting support for today. We are here for you and will support you every step of the way. Just don't smoke. Hang in there until tomorrow morning and I am sure some others with good experience will jump in with their 2 cents, or is it a buck and a half now, worth. Just Say N.O.P.E. I want to hear some personal stories about staying strong in their quit and any tips or advice you have for staying smoke free under major life changes etc.... thqanks its really appreciative!!!! Ang, You want to hear about bad experiences and staying quit? Well, within a month of quitting, I lost my job, dislocated my shoulder, was assaulted by my best friend and roommate at the time, moved 200 miles away and had ZERO friends here and in the process of moving, lost nearly all of my friends in my old town too, started school all over again and totally began a new life... alone. Yes, I've had 3 slips since quitting in June, but for the most part, I've managed to stay smoke free despite all of that. I don't really have any advice for how to stay quit through bad experiences because if I didn't exactly do it the right way, but I think Luna's idea with the journal is a great one. Also, I say make a plan now for what you will do when a tough situation hits... it's like an emergency action plan. You don't make a plan when you're in an emergency, you have a plan for when one happens... and considering that you pretty much know that you're gonna need this plan, just be very specific. For instance, you will walk away and pull out your reasons for quitting and read them 10 times... by the time you read your list 10 times, the craving should have passed. Or, you will leave the situation and just take deep breaths until you feel better... whatever you think will work for you... just devise a plan now and tell yourself no matter what, you WILL stay quit! You can do this! Crave the Quit! Ang I am sorry you are going through so much stress right now, you have got some really good stories showing you that you can succeed even with stress in your life. Just one thing more............smoking will NOT make it any easier if anything it will be harder because then you will be more stressed for smoking again. From the second to the fourth weeks of my quit, I had major family stress. I had to move my dear 94 year old mother to an Alzheimer's unit. I am the trustee and DPOA, it was a very difficult decision. I had major stress with my brother who was in denial and accused me of not caring about my Mom, a hysterical sister, and a very confused mother who did not understand why she had to leave her apartment. My husband and other sister were very helpful, but neither of them had a clue about addiction and withdrawal. "Why complain about something I had brought on myself, they wondered?" To add to that stress, much of that time I had to be away from my life-line - this site and all of my new friends who understood what I was going through. I had absolutely NO access to a computer, sometimes for as long as five days. Someone here suggested that I post in a journal, and then respond to myself like I was one of the people here. I started a journal before I went. I copied all of my favorite posts to read and reread and reread when things got really awful. Then I posted in my journal. And answered myself! On my 1 month anniversary, I was soo proud that I had made it, I sat in my rented room in the retirement center and wrote the following poem...then came back to the SSC and posted it. :) Here is my post: On my one month anniversary, I was off to the city placing my Mom in an Alzheimer's assisted living unit. Through all of the stress, I had NOT ONE PUFF! I missed being on site, and so sat in my room that night and wrote you all a poem. I am happy and proud of myself. Today Im just a month away From picking out my starting day So terrified to start the fast So wanting Make this last puff last! So scared of what was up ahead So fraid Id fail, fall on my head Id tried and tried and tried before Was this attempt another bore? I felt that it was sad good bye To my best friend, to my ally Who helped me cope, who helped me stay On even keel most every day. I loved to smoke through thick and thin That stick, he was my closest kin I thought he helped, I thought he cared If I was mad or sad or scared. "He wont get me!" I thought and thought And ev'ry logic fought and fought Its others th

Ang, As you can see there is lots of support here. Take the time to relax yourself and go at this with a positive attitude. Protect your quit and keep your coping mechanisms ready. Choose something around your home that you can keep forever and put it up in your new place to remind you of all the good times you used to have. Then pick something from your new place and put them together. You can still be happy and move forward! You can do this step by step, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
