forgot to put a patch on

bambi- if there's one thing about the patch that really helped me, it's knowing that smoking while wearing the patch could be very dangerous, if not potentially fatal. It does help with the craves, but it really is one or the other as far as smoking or the patch. A good incentive for me! But if you can cold turkey it, you technically get over this addiction sooner ( a lot sooner). I'm in awe of those who do this. Either way- please do it. My lungs feel so much better now, my voice improved, I and my house don't stink. Yes, I have my days, but I'm only 3 weeks into this. I smoked for 30 years. You won't see any flowers or smiley faces on my replies because quite honestly, it's really hard and I'm not really nice right now, but you sure have my respect, as does everyone on this site. What a strange trip it is! Bambi, Glad to hear you are still hanging in there. I agree that you should do whatever it takes to quit. Don't forget I am one day behind you, so don't stumble. I cannot give you advice on you using the patch, because I went cold turkey. The only thing I use to help me is winterfresh gum after 30 years. Today has been a tough one for me, it was lunch time when i realised i had forgotton to put a patch on. By that time i diddnt know whether to put one on right away or not bother and see what happens. Because i was feeling ok i decided not to put one on. I think i should have put one on, have spent the past 7 hours thinking about having a cig and then talking myself out of it. I have been waiting for my son to leave the room so i can pinch one out of his pack, but he always takes them with him, i think he's on to me. I have eaten so many sweets it made me feel sick. The dilema is should i continue using the patch or not, when i get up tomorrow morning it will be 36 hours nicotine free, but I know i couldnt face another day like today. You can always just put the patch on now. I forgot a few times but as soon as I remembered I put it on, protect your quit no matter what!! Bambi, only you can make that decision. If you can't go on with your quit without the patch, then I say do it. Do whatever it takes to protect your quit. There's time enough in the future to wean from the patch. Smart girl.....and do you have a spare patch in your purse?? Be prepared if this happens again. I used patches and I give them a great deal of credit for my quit. They are a weaning tool...used as directed they will take the edge off the craves....(and I personally needed that help to make it) Hang right in here.....this is gonna be the greatest thing you ever did for yourself...hands down, it wins Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1529 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 61,172 Amount Saved: $8409.5 Life Gained: Days: 199 Hrs: 11 Mins: 22 Seconds: 56

bambi, The choice is yours, however many members have advised from experience to continue with the patch program. This will wean you off gradually and give you the added support you need. Hope this helps, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
