Hi Z, Its a mad world we live in and even tho` we are quit, it still dont stop us getting this horrid disease. Yesterday was quite a thinking day. I thought back to last November. I was well over a 100 days quit. I remembered telling my therapist that I knew I would never smoke again. SO What happened? In January, I allowed myself to be around smokers. Not only that I would purposely sit near them or stand in their smoke trail. By Feb, I'd given up again. Lots of excuses- about emotions and junk- but those are just excuses. I thought it would be easy to give up again. I know what to expect and when to expect it. I know how to deal with urges and cravings better. Nothing is ever easy to give up. It's not as hard as the first time around, but it's no picnic. (the first week is still hell (Sleeping all the darn Time), and the second is still heck (a little better, not as moody), and the third is still blah(Flat with tiny bits of energy)) The above was written for a friend, who may be teetering OR anyone else thinking about giving up the Quit. Thanks Bingo, Jacko, Lady, Shevie, Luna My friend is coping well with her loss. She was kind of expecting it- to me it seems too soon- Diaganosed with toungue cancer this Spring- thought he'd live a year or two- Anyway, rumble, ramble, rumble Peace! Upon Lady's suggestion, I am posting this. I don't want to bring anyone down, but......... A friend's hubby has lost his battle. He passed this weekend. He was diagnosed with throat cancer a few years back. Some nodules were removed. Then a few months ago he was told it was in his mouth, in the tongue area. He smoked the entire time, until he was too weak to smoke anymore.:( This friend is more of an acquantance, a walking buddy, so I am not posting this for sympathy. I am posting, mainly, as a warning and b/c Lady said I should. On my drive home, I was thinking about my friend and her family. You know what is really sad, is that his daughter is having her wedding this Saturday. They did a quick Justice of the Peace wedding b/4 the fiance left for Iraq. Now he's back and they're doing the real thing, the big ta do. He's going to miss it and I am sure parts of the wedding will be bittersweet. What a waste....... Zany, The reason I suggested you post this is because prior to my quit, I ignored any and every story like this. I never realized all the horrors that are associted with smoking. UFO posted about a friend of hers dying very early in my quit. I printed that post and I carried it with me for months. It saved my quit on more than one occassion. We all need to be aware of the damages that can come from our smoking. If it keeps just one person quit, it is worth the post. My prayers for your friends family. I am very grateful to see your meter climbing my friend. Yes, a learning experience, a warning, a wake up call. This could have been me. This could have been you. If you're still smoking, it still might be. Lady gave you good advice. We ALL need these wake-up calls. These battles we face are nothing frivolous. This is LIFE we are fighting for!! This is a learning experience. Our thoughts go out to that family who has lost their loved one. Not one puff ever seems to be the logical choice. We hope that everyone can learn from one another's experience. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
