Nicotine Addictive? Naw, But Just Don't Tell My Cat!

for 18 år siden 0 598 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
My cat is different. He hates smoking! Previously, whenever I smoked, usually outside, in the garden, he never came close to me . However, in the last 4 weeks, every morning when I sat outside enjoying my coffee, he came and licked my feet ! :) Cheers, nmc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 29 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 291 Amount Saved: $145 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 9 Mins: 49 Seconds: 0

To aid me in my quit, I have been using nicotine gum. The other day, I noticed my younger cat was batting around something on the living room floor. Turned out he had managed to get ahold of one of the "expired wads" of nicotine gum! I figured I must have left it on the edge of a plate or on top of a pop can, and he somehow got a hold of it. He was having a ball whacking it around, picking it up, carrying it around the room and then starting the "game" all over again. Not knowing whether he would get sick from chewing on or eating the gum, I took it away and threw it in the trash. He wasn't happy about it, but soon found something else to amuse himself with, or so I thought! Every time I turned around, it seemed that he had managed to obtain another wad of gum from somewhere! I do have the bad habit of parking an "expired piece" on the top of my pop can throughout the day, but since spotting him playing with one earlier, I had been trying to make sure any chewed pieces went in the trash. So where was he getting all this gum from? The next morning I awakened by the two cats poking around the bedroom making noise (their way of getting me out of bed). The younger cat seemed especially determined to get at something at my nightstand. I couldn't believe my eyes when he quick as a flash, put his front feet on the side of the nightstand, grabbed the piece of gum that I had put there the night before, and took off like a bandit! Suddenly, it hit me! I thought I had been throwing most of my chewed gum away because I didn't see any "wads" lying around the house. Little did I know, my silly cat has been swiping it as fast as I could chew it! So, if you have any doubts whether nicotine is addictive, you might want to ask my cat! Or, if you're wondering how to shed some of those post-quit pounds, I'm sure my cat would be willing to demonstrate his nicotine gum exercise regime. :eg: Anyway, thought you all might get a chuckle out of this. And no, this is not a send-up or my latest attempt to make it on "Ripley's Believe It Or Not!" ;p Have a good weekend everybody, Livadia My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 96 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,936 Amount Saved: $480 Life Gained
Its Ironic wrote: Ask the vet for a kitty patch?
ROTFLMAO... Actually, he needs more help than that. Only one of my cats is a junkie. ;) The other (older and wiser one) has abscribed to the N.O.P.E. motto for years... The second he would hear the lighter flick, he was off like a shot! He *knew* the next thing coming was a puff of toxic smoke, and he was having noneof that! :) Best, Livadia My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 97 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,949 Amount Saved: $485 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 9 Mins: 1 Seconds: 49

Livadia: I think your cat is a drug addict! You need to start a meter for the poor thing on SSC. :) Skidoo: that story about your cat is sad and hilarious at the same time (is that possible)? You and hubby have a good time...don't let him lick your fingers! :8o: My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 15 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 750 Amount Saved: $120 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 13 Mins: 4 Seconds: 37

I have to tell you Livadia that my cat is indeed addicted to nicotine and it wasnt until I read your thread that I thought to share this fact with SSC. Enid has always licked my fingers after I went out for a smoke. It took me some time to figure this out as she always liked to cuddle with me and it was no surprise when she would want to sit on my lab when I would come in from outside. It wasnt until about 4 years ago when my mother had quit smoking that it finally dawned on me. I kind of suspected that my mom was smoking behind our backs - afraid to tell us that she had started again - she came over and sat down on our couch and boom Enid was on her licking her fingers. I remember watching and it hitting me like a ton of bricks, not only was my mother smoking again but my cat was addicted to nicotine!!!!!! Unfortunately I lost my mom to colon cancer in December of 03. I miss her terribly (especially since the birth of my last child). And my cat... well Enid went through withdrawl right along with me and now she is fine. So yes nicotine is addictive folks. I feel sorry for all the children living in homes with smoking parents! ON to happy topics. Happy weekend everyone! I'm going back to the chocolate party and tomorrow night to a hotel with my husband!!! Dear Livadia I laughed so hard when I read this ......then I thought...this is not funny. Cats are funny animals. Yes, my cats would get in my purse for smokes. I had to keep them up. They even would knock a glass with booze in it over so they could drink it. George Carlin the comedian did a skit on, hey when you go out the cat will invite all the cats in the neighborhood over and smoke and drink everything in the house and then steal your credit cards to buy more. Its pretty funny. So the reality Livadia..........yes its INDEED ADDICTIVE. Poor Kitty....Wonder if they withdraw as bad as we do? Ask the vet for a kitty patch? KIDDER.
