To aid me in my quit, I have been using nicotine gum.
The other day, I noticed my younger cat was batting around something on the living room floor. Turned out he had managed to get ahold of one of the "expired wads" of nicotine gum! I figured I must have left it on the edge of a plate or on top of a pop can, and he somehow got a hold of it. He was having a ball whacking it around, picking it up, carrying it around the room and then starting the "game" all over again.
Not knowing whether he would get sick from chewing on or eating the gum, I took it away and threw it in the trash. He wasn't happy about it, but soon found something else to amuse himself with, or so I thought!
Every time I turned around, it seemed that he had managed to obtain another wad of gum from somewhere! I do have the bad habit of parking an "expired piece" on the top of my pop can throughout the day, but since spotting him playing with one earlier, I had been trying to make sure any chewed pieces went in the trash.
So where was he getting all this gum from?
The next morning I awakened by the two cats poking around the bedroom making noise (their way of getting me out of bed). The younger cat seemed especially determined to get at something at my nightstand.
I couldn't believe my eyes when he quick as a flash, put his front feet on the side of the nightstand, grabbed the piece of gum that I had put there the night before, and took off like a bandit!
Suddenly, it hit me!
I thought I had been throwing most of my chewed gum away because I didn't see any "wads" lying around the house. Little did I know, my silly cat has been swiping it as fast as I could chew it!
So, if you have any doubts whether nicotine is addictive, you might want to ask my cat! Or, if you're wondering how to shed some of those post-quit pounds, I'm sure my cat would be willing to demonstrate his nicotine gum exercise regime. :eg:
Anyway, thought you all might get a chuckle out of this. And no, this is not a send-up or my latest attempt to make it on "Ripley's Believe It Or Not!" ;p
Have a good weekend everybody,
Livadia
