I thought about the book on self esteem that could be a reward. I'll search this afternoon for one. Any good titles out there?

Here's one that might help: Why Do I Think I'm Nothing Without a Man by Penelope Russianoff. It's out of print now, but you can find a used copy on Amazon.com or eBay fairly easily and reasonably.
The same author has a new title out that's also worth reading:
When Am I Going to Be Happy?: How to Break the Emotional Bad Habits That Make You Miserable Again, it's available in paperback through Amazon.
Hope these might be of help, Zany.
I know it's hard, but I second what the others have said -- you need to move on. This guy is not the right one for you.
I think you need to get to the bottom on why you are so addicted to someone who clearly has some serious issues and whom you have allowed to run your life.
As much as you'd like to hope otherwise -- you u]cannot change another person's basic nature and personality, but you can change your own behavior and reactions.
You deserve better, Zany, and so does your son. You can do this, Zany... Just give yourself the credit you deserve.
All the best,
Livadia
